Croatian Boxer Suspended For Life

Post by mike222 »

AIBA have suspended Vido Loncar and his entire coaching team provisionally for life following his assault on a Referee at the European Championships in Zagreb.

What a piece of crap and cheap shot he threw. The coaches took their sweet time getting in the ring.
On the other hand, I would have liked to seen the rest of the bout to see if the stoppage was necessary. The 8 count did not look it. Maybe the fix was in but they were in Croatia and the hometown boxer was stopped. Strange situation. The life ban is good.

Does anyone here know why the coaches were given such a serious ban as well? Not reacting quickly enough?

As for the stoppage, it looks poor on the videos that have been widely circulated, but I've read that in the round of the stoppage Loncar was dropped and given a standing count prior to the one shown in the video. If that's true I think the stoppage is more understandable.

Croatian Luka Prtenjaca withdrew from his quarter final against Irish boxer John Joyce this evening possibly as a result of AIBA's action.
No doubt the coaches will appeal against their suspension whilst the boxer has been arrested.

I read somewhere that the coaches encouraged him to hit the ref.

If they did their ban is understandable. There should be no room for encouraging BS like that.

I understand it was the third count in the round which is an automatic stoppage. It is alleged that the boxers local coach suggested he hit the ref. They should have been Creation national coaches in the corner so maybe a shout came from outside?

Seems like the right call on the boxer. Idk about his corner. Seems excessive. Sounds like they may have had some input there but I'd like to know the details of that. Maybe just a suspension for x years/months would be a better punishment for them.
