The boxrec schedule says Mauricio Herrera is fighting Jose Benavidez on 12/13/2014 for the Interim WBA World Light Welterweight Title in Las Vegas.
My jaw basically dropped. First of all, Top Rank totally shitted on this kid's career the whole way through. They took perhaps 2010's #1 prospect p4p in the world, and in nearly 5 years and 22 fights, turned him into an underpromoted bottomfeeder. The fact that he's dominantly won all 22 of his fights and still hasn't cracked boxrec's top 125 should indicate how pathetically they've been matching him. Now they're going from matching him against corpses to putting him in with the guy who beat Provodnikov and unofficially Garcia. I think Jose will more than likely get soundly whooped. It seems like Top Rank had one of the best prospects they could ask for, and they actively tried to completely squander the opportunity.

I think Jose is one of the best prospects out there, but yea idk wtf TR has been doing with him. Perhaps they know something. Definitely seems like a sink or swim moment for his career. And I agree Herrera is a big step up, but I think Jose will surprise many who don't know who he even is or kinda forgot about him if they did know him as a amateur or young pro.

He was just on a regular soft diet for young prospects but was out on his feet vs Miranda and reinjured his hand, sat out for a year. Herrera is tough, but doesnt punch hard
