Alexander Povetkin vs. Carlos Takam
This is a very good heavyweight matchup of two bona fide top ten HWs coming up tomorrow.
What's your prediction?
Here is the fight card:
http://boxrec.com/show_display.php?show_id=698065
Alexander Povetkin - Carlos Takam
(WBC Silver HW title - referee: Kenny Bayless judges: Mauro Di Fiore, Omar Mintun, Predrag Aleksic)
Rakhim Chakhkiev - Giacobbe Fragomeni
(European (EBU) cruiserweight title)
Arif Magomedov - Michael Zerafa
(12 round world youth title fight, undefeated young middleweights. Magomedov could be a star of the future)
Umar Salamov - Patrick Bois
(Age 20 Salamov is one of the best prospects in boxing)
Murad Khalidov vs. Vladimir Goncharov
(heavyweight Goncharov is now promoted by Andrey Rabinsky, and is still young enough to have some potential)
Eduard Troyanovsky - Jose Alfaro
Manuel Charr - Michael Grant
Sergey Ekimov - Miguel Velozo
Evgeny Smirnov - Michael Nyawade

I think Takam pulls the upset in this one.
Michael Grant is still fighting?

Is it really an upset for Takam? The biggest obstacle to him here is the judging will probably be super slanted towards Povetkin. I think he's probably better in every way as a professional now than Alexander is.

Sh1t, Michael Grant vs. Charr! I would have loved to see that.

Charr has won them all after 3. Grant goes down toward the end of round from a punch and shove, ruled a slip, but he was hurt.

That was ruled a slip?!

Grant went for broke in round 4, throwing big shots, esp to the body, but he was hurt a couple times with rights and was all over the place much of the rd.

Re: Alexander Povetkin vs. Carlos Takam
Its over, Charr wins by RTD. I'm not sure what happened as rd 5 was actually the most competitive of the fight.
Re: Alexander Povetkin vs. Carlos Takam
Grant was extenuated and kept bending down when under fire. Grant showed nice body work but it didn't had enough sting to keep Charr from stalking him in the ropes where he tee'd off on him.

Magomedov UD 12 Zerafa
Charr RTD 6 Grant
Smirnov UD 6 Nyawade
Ekimov TKO 5 Velozo
Troyanovsky KO 5 Alfaro
Magomedov UD 12 Zerafa
Charr RTD 6 Grant
Smirnov UD 6 Nyawade
Ekimov TKO 5 Velozo
Re: Alexander Povetkin vs. Carlos Takam
After flooring Alfaro in round 3, Troy started round 4 & 5 strong throwing hard power punches in combos. It worked in round 5 where he caught Alfaro flush with a straight. Troy squares up a lot though and needs to improve his footwork... the pop is there though

Re: Alexander Povetkin vs. Carlos Takam
What the hell happened to Grant?? Did he just wilt physically? Looked like he was coming on. His conditioning must be crap. He is old however. Get him some Hopkins EPO.

Grant is over 40yo and hadn't fought in quite a while. Actually I thought he was retired, but I'm sure he was paid well in order to take this fight.diddy wrote:What the hell happened to Grant?? Re: Alexander Povetkin vs. Carlos Takam
I'm wondering the same thing. Grant had his best round in the 5th. I thought things were about to get interesting and then suddenly he or his corner calls the fight.diddy wrote:What the hell happened to Grant?? Did he just wilt physically? Re: Alexander Povetkin vs. Carlos Takam
That sounds about right
Re: Alexander Povetkin vs. Carlos Takam
I thought he'd quit between the 4th and 5th... He was gasping for air... he was only kept up by the ropes and looking for a spot to lay...chucktaylor wrote:I'm wondering the same thing. IMO his corner told him one last round and he emptied the tank.
Re: Alexander Povetkin vs. Carlos Takam
All this wating around they could have got the Magomedov fight shown FFS.
