Not to me, mate. You know how you have 'Horse Rules' that some people can't get their heads around? Well I have my rules too. Essentially, I decide who I think is the genuine best in a particular division, anoint them as the true world champion and that's that.

Does beating your champion make someone the champion or can you just hand it to someone else?

If you beat my champion you become my champion but you must defend your title against worthy opponents, if any exist, within an arbitrary (in the autocratic sense) time-frame of my choosing or you risk being stripped of my title and it being awarded to somebody I decide is better than you.

& that still makes more sense than the machinations of the sanctioning bodies...

A trinket fight? No thanks. If Murray beats Golovkin he'll be the middleweight champion of the world. At the moment, no other win would give him that honour.

Well Miguel Cotto would give him the WBC, Peter Quillan would give him the WBO & Jermaine Taylor would give him the IBF.
3 much easier routes to a world title.
Will he be the undisputed champion? No!
Will he be considered the worlds no 1 middle wieght? No!
but thats probably because he is not the best middlewieght in the world

He wont beat GGG, the 3 above are win-able fights and all hold legitimate belts
after falling just short in his 2 extremely difficult shots to date, I wouldn't have grudged him a more achievable task in what might be his last shot at a title.
If he goes down in history as a nearly man, it will be a shame as he has done so well in his career at the top level
look at Darren Barker, 1 win against geale (a guy who doesn't make it onto many p4p lists) and he can go to his grave a happy man that he has been a world champion

I wish him all the very best against Golovkin and credit the man for his heart, taking on massive challenge after massive challenge when many others would have gone for the easier option.
But as i said originally, part of me would just like to see him win a belt.
And if, as stated earlier in the thread, he could have secured a fight with Cotto, which would have meant beating a big name for a good payday and getting in the ring with a significantly smaller man to win the linear championship against a 4 wieght world champion, future Hall of famer and the "man that beat the man", I'm sure that would have been sufficient for me
