Gavin v Skeete
Gavin v Skeete
I haven't seen anyone mention this, I think it's a decent fight for skills of course it will be quite boring, but what do you think happens?

In Barrera-Morales 1 style war, Gavin just edges it on points.

Not one to get the juices flowing.
I'll assume Gavin won't be able to get motivated for it and will lose for that reason.

Re: Gavin v Skeete
I hadn't noticed Gavin got a comeback win under his belt last Friday night.

That wouldnt surprise me to be honest.DMA1987 wrote:Not one to get the juices flowing.

Re: Gavin v Skeete
Tempted to say that it is 'one for the purists' or 'trade fight'....pick whatever cliche you fancy.
But that might will mean it errupts into a proper old dust-up with Frankie and Skeete taking chunks out of each other and meeting in the middle of the ring!
Get the sense that it is already last chance saloon for Gavin.....win it and the project is still on; lose it and we give you a call when we need you next. Hopefully he'll turn up and show us a bit more of what he can do.

Re: Gavin v Skeete
I hope he doesnt bloody lose to Skeete because he clearly is a more talented fighter overall. My fear is that he's very much a confidence fighter and having lost to Bundu and knowing he's in the ring with a guy he's expected to beat, the pressure is going to be ramped right up and that's my main concern.Bodyshot3 wrote:Tempted to say that it is 'one for the purists' or 'trade fight'....pick whatever cliche you fancy.

A bit off topic, but Bundu vs Thurman is a truly mouth-watering fight & will give a decent measuring stick of how far Gavin is at world level.
Re: Gavin v Skeete
I think Thurman will deal with Bundu. Gavin's problem is that he doesnt hit hard enough.Boxerbeetle wrote:A bit off topic, but Bundu vs Thurman is a truly mouth-watering fight & will give a decent measuring stick of how far Gavin is at world level.

Yeah if Thurman's as good as he sometimes looks he should beat Bundu, but I can't see it being an easy night's work for him, Bundu looks very awkward to deal with. There's an outside chance that Thurman will end up frustrated & may struggle.lefty wrote:I think Thurman will deal with Bundu. We dont really know what Bundu's chin is like yet though either. He hasnt really been in with anyone who can punch yet.Boxerbeetle wrote:Yeah if Thurman's as good as he sometimes looks he should beat Bundu, but I can't see it being an easy night's work for him, Bundu looks very awkward to deal with. Re: Gavin v Skeete
I think Thurman will beat Bundu fairly easily. Thurman has world-class ability in my opinion and Bundu is an EBU level fighter who barely got past Frankie Gavin and had tough moments with Lee Purdey. I also don't see how their styles mesh in such a way that Bundu would do better than a comparison of overall ability suggests.
Re: Gavin v Skeete
That's how i feel at the moment. I think that Gavin struggled with him because he doesnt have the power to deal with a come forward fighter like that basically.crusader wrote:I think Thurman will beat Bundu fairly easily. Re: Gavin v Skeete
Ability-wise I don't think there's much separating Bundu from the typical EBU champ. I consider him slightly overrated and believe that it may partially be due to him coming across as likable during his trips to the UK.
I'm not sure if he's better than Jan Zaveck, someone Thurman beat 12-0 x 3.

Not a good matchup for Gavin to look good, i fear

Seems a strange bit of match making to be honest.Counter-puncher wrote:Not a good matchup for Gavin to look good, i fear

Re: Gavin v Skeete
Indeed. The more conspiratorially minded might even wonder if someone out there has got it in for him
Re: Gavin v Skeete
Big step up for Skeete, which will motivate him. Big step down for Frankie (his comeback fight was just a keep-busy, this is an actual career fight, and will highlight for him that he now has to define himself against people who haven't made it to the British title yet. Tie that up with the fact that Frankie doesn't look like he's really special and it's a real fight. I feel like Skeete is still learning and Frankie might not be, so I'm tipping Skeete to get the upset on points. If he does, it might be the last we see of Frankie.
Re: Gavin v Skeete
This fight will end in a draw.
Re: Gavin v Skeete
I like how Frankie comes across but I can see him getting busted up; Skeete is awful to watch but is very effective and looks to hit harder than his record shows. He is an expert at keeping men away with his jab.
Re: Gavin v Skeete
Exactly. The only wadi to beat him really is to be able to walk through that jab, and I'm not sure Frankie is the man to do it. Or maybe roll under it, which again isn't Frankie

Re: Gavin v Skeete
I've really been hoping that Frankie can get to world level and get a couple of big fights for the country to get behind him but i'm starting to doubt this will happen now.
He looked awesome against Vassell and i thought that was going to be the one that spark him into life but it's not worked out like that.
I do think he can beat Skeete and get a challenge for the European again fairly quickly but i can't see him getting any sort of world level belt unless he changes a few things. On-song, it's brilliant to watch him keep his opponent at distance and pick them off but at welter, there'll be some big fellas out there ready to walk him down and unload.

Frustrating because if he was trim, he could be a lot stronger at LWW.freddydoesdallas wrote:I've really been hoping that Frankie can get to world level and get a couple of big fights for the country to get behind him but i'm starting to doubt this will happen now.
