Yeah to be honest I'd be tempted by that one too.

I'm not totally against PPV - obviously I'd prefer never to have it, but I'm realistic enough to know some big fights would be very difficult to make without it. Trouble is, Cleverly vs Bellew 2 is absolutely nowhere near a PPV fight & everybody knows it (even Cleverly has said the same FFS!).
Adam Booth was absolutely spot on about the PPV situation in his recent IFL interview. Duno if you saw it?

The normal Saturday night cards have been getting worse and worse over the last couple of years. We all expect filler fights and knock over jobs but when you sit for 3-4 hours and only see 90% wins for Matchroom fighters, you just think, what is the point?!

We know they've been building the former GB Olympic stars on these cards but now it is clear why, to put them on PPV.

Are we to take Clev-Bellew II as the way things will be moving forward? Or is it just a one-off, on a card that was pre-planned for PPV that really should've been headlined by Brook in his homecoming fight against Rios?

If it is the norm, then we as fans are in trouble and the UK boxing scene is in trouble. People just won't pay for this fight. It's a non-event in the eyes of the public.

Cleverly is virtually unheard of and Bellew's only recognisable trait is the aggressive 'I'll die in the ring' etc. spiel that catches the odd headline in the back pages. Am I missing something on Bellew? An average fighter whose normal appearances on a Saturday night card have hardly been setting the pulses racing. It's all fake, hyped up crap.

Could Campbell v Coyle be a PPV event? Quigg v Galahad? Burns v Crolla? DeGale v Callum Smith? Joshua v Towers? It is a very thin line that Matchroom are treading.

It feels like they are going to screw us over for every little penny they can get. I'd expect a hike up in PPV price for Brook v Khan, probably pushing over £20 and if it ever happens, what will Joshua v Klitshcko/Fury PPV price be? £24.99? Even more? Tied in with a Golovkin fight in the early hours? It's coming with 3 dates to fill next year.

The fans and public will eventually lose interest(I'm not buying into that crap for 20 nicker etc.) or watch via other means. It's basically Matchroom/Sky cashing in while the going is good and sod all us real fans. "We'll just take another little pinch of the pie(I said pinch), no one will even notice, we've got an under-card to stack you know and next week we'll be serving 100% pure steak pie, the best ever available in the UK via South America, all in the glorious gravy of HD..."

Yes, I'm being negative and yes, I understand and agree with the odd PPV card(Froch-Groves II) but Clev-Bellew has opened up a whole new can of worms in regards of what actually is a PPV event.

It's also a lesson in how to turn a majority of your fans/customers against you in just one single night. That is a one-way deal, you can't get that back once you've ignored us and basically shown us the door. "Not got £20 to spare, nevermind son. Shut the door on the way out. Come and get your pies! A massive night for real championship pies! For true warriors these pies. The world can't wait for 'um!"

It's just a pie, Eddie. And this one resembles a cheapo from Aldi.

Sky sports have chucked bellew cleverly ringside on their YouTube channel (first time I think). If that doesn't scream "we think this will struggle to sell" I don't know what does.

Very negative, but good post.

Eddie must just be trying to please the bosses at Sky to keep his lucrative TV deal. The PPV was planned with Brook v Rios and Bellew Clev as chief support but with the Brook incident, Sky may have enforced that it still needs to be PPV and Eddie must do all he can to convince the fans to purchase. I believe Hearn is smart enough and connected to the fans enough (via social media) to realize that this is wrong. BUT he's decided to go against this to secure his contract and gone into Salesman overdrive. He'll probably release book in his 50's admitting all this, again for £££!

As I previously mentioned, Adam Booth's views were spot on during his latest IFL interview. It's just a card stacked full of Saturday fight nights and fans would much rather have these all separated out over 5 or 6 Saturdays than pay £15 for it all on one night and have the next few Saturday's with no boxing!

Despite the massive mis-step that is this Bellew/Clev PPV (and Eddies apparent views that it's the fighter on the bill that matters, not the fight) I still think that Matchroom will put on some great shows in 2015. I sincerely hope that this PPV tanks, hard, as I think it'll get him back on the right track. The track he started out on.

I think that it's a good card btw.

Well its a rubbish episode anyway. Sky will give the reason of the 'Ali / Foreman' anniversary but the real reason is what you said.

Funny how the SKY PPV Wrestling shows are now available in the UK on the WWE Network for $9.99 plus November free and yet Matchroom are going down the line of try and gouge every last penny they think they can get off the punters, trouble is that Matchroom just don't have the fights to go PPV at this time. Who wants to see a bunch of Latvian milkmen with 2-19 records lined up against the home fighters for 15 quid or so ?

The real issue for Matchroom right now is that public opinion on them will ultimately change just because of this one move.

The polls around have shown that, the general fans, us, aren't paying for the fight. So that means we will not be talking or promoting the fight/card in a positive way, if in any way at all. We aren't speaking with our circles(potential viewers/buyers including at a media level Twitter etc.) about the fight in any way other than, it's a rip off.

That is a massive loss.

Not only because Matchroom may well rue the decision and sink at PPV with this fight, but because the general boxing community knows that they are being 'done wrong' and in turn, will spread that message in future.

That won't happen but only wa I would pay money for a ppv

I'm as upset as the next man about shit ppvs. But this is just daft.
Brook vs khan with a good undercard is ppv.
Quigg vs frampton unification with a good under card is ppv.
These regularly get mentioned as the most anticipated fights on this board (and the current scene for that matter)
The other 3 are worthy to headline their own standard saturday night show,
a degale title fight or fury vs price/joshua could be chief support on a ppv.

To demand all 5 of those in one show is taking it too far

You do realise that the card you mentioned will take place over 3 or 4 ppv. Delagle won't be ppv so it all depends if hearn is in clev/bell ultra greedy pudendum mode that coyle v cambell may/may not be ppv. Obviously its clearly not a ppv fight but then again neither is clev v bellew. the other 3 fights are ppv material as it stands unless one of them lose.

Erm, not to be a negative Nancy, but 'public opinion' won't be affected a jot by this decision - the 'public' don't know or care about Matchroom & their exclusive Sky deal.

As pointed out many times before, the real boxing fans (or 'general' fans as you term us) have very little impact in making or breaking a PPV - it's all about the casuals. The casuals don't give a fvck about the average Friday or Saturday night card, so won't be even slightly interested if we start slagging off Hearn/Matchroom.

I've said this a hundred times since the Cleverly vs Bellew 2 PPV was announced - it's no good complaining to the casual fan about it, because the casual fan does not care about the fight. That's why the PPV will bomb, but also why this PPV won"t change anything; there will be no public outcry about the fight not being shown on regular Sky Sports, because the 'general public' won't even notice.

It will just be a sad reminder that an already niche sport has been taken yet further away from the public consciousness.

No boxing on tonight on SKY or next week, could have put a couple of the fights on the PPV card this weekend and a couple of them next week. Poor form when you're already paying top dollar for SKY in the first place
