they are both much better. wach annhilated christian hammer who is a technically solid boxer. pianeta is not really good but he is an OK boxer and actually was considered a prospect by sauerland when he was young. he just couldn't deliver what people expected from him.

mormeck was a great cruiserweight boxer who absolutely did not belong into the heavyweight division while leapai has no skill at all. leapai was by far wlads worst opponent, he only got the mandatory because he beat boytsov.

actually leapai was installed as challenger of boytsov because they thought it would be the easiest opponent for boytsov but boytsov showed up fat and out of shape (some say he has drinking issues) and leapai won in a gritty performance against him (you got to give him credit for grinding the win out with his limited skill because even against a fat and out of shape boytsov you have to still win the fight).

I agree with all your points but will add Klitschko remains Pianeta's only loss.

Was anyone (Sauerland, his fans, himself) really expecting him to beat Wladimir?

Hopefully we haven't seen the last of Wach or Pianeta on the world level. Pianeta is fighting for the WBO European championship belt next weekend which could make him attractive to Povetkin/Stiverne/Wilder/Joshua.

Thank you mate. Whilst I never questioned the effect of that left hook (it moved his head sideways about six inches) the huge loaded-up on right hand that split the gloves didn't seem to move his head at all, even if you look at the stills. Hence why it is my contention the left hook (though it might've seemed cuffing to some) did enough damage to convince him to go down & the big right hand didn't land flush, but it didn't really matter (not only because getting hit on the collarbone/neck like that would hurt like fvck anyway but) 'cos Malik had already thought "Fvck this for a lark".

The gif seems to bear out my prejudices, his head doesn't rock back from the right at all & if nothing else Wilder can clearly punch so you'd think it would make Scott do an impression of a Pez dispenser:
