Kameda vs Jamie McDonnell

Post by Boxerbeetle »

Fat Dan just posted an article on ESPN saying "Bantamweight world titleholders Tomoki Kameda and Jamie McDonnell are headed to a unification bout in early 2015 provided each wins his upcoming bout, McDonnell promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing said Friday."

Full article here: http://espn.go.com/boxing/story/_/id/11 ... ation-bout

How do people see this going? I know there's a fair few on here who are very knowledgeable about the Asian scene so I'd be particularly interested to see what they think of Kameda, must admit I've not seen much of him personally.

Good fight but I'm not as high on Kameda as some are. He's quick & flashy but--maybe I'm prejudiced--the Kameda Bros just don't do it for me, in an intestinal fortitude & also a proper competitive way: they all look good knocking over clubfighters but aren't really top-top level, imo. Tomoki is tall & can hit sharply. He struggled like fvck against Jamoye after Kameda relocated to Mexico due to being banned in Japan (long story, Boxing-Prospect wil lI suspect be along any second however... ). I don't really rate the "former title challengers & belt holders" he's beaten up since, they're a sorry, sub-true elite lot who've just been lucky to get shots at vacant titles that they eventually lift a belt imo (the Namibian & the Thai, especially: some people hold these up as great defining victories. Not me).

Shinsuke Yamanaka, the WBC champ, is better than all the K Bros, imo. Bit limited in that he doesn't jab properly, just tries to take your head clean off & fights stupid but has a straight left like an Exocet, fast & really fight-changing. He's beaten better fighters than Kameda, more impressively & performed much, much better against common opponents. Put a more worn Jamoye down four (five?) times, beat the shite out of him, Jamoye didn't win a second of that fight. The Thai that he just beat, Suriyat (sp?) is a fvcking hard boy, & a former champion (twice the calibre of the Thai Kameda beat imo, easily), Tunacao was unbeaten in five years (smth like that, a long fvcking time) & a former world champ. Yamanaka is a very very good fighter.

So. Kameda: good fighter. Unbeaten, young, fast & flashy. But he's not the division number 1, Yamanaka is. Unifying the titles won't suddenly make me go "Oooh it's the NUMBER ONE BANTAMWEIGHT!!!" 'cos it's like Froch facing Kessler (except smaller & with less tattoos): there's a better fighter than either out there.

But a bloody good fight, one I might try to venture Oop Norf to watch.

McDonnell to become the latest Matchroom fighter to fall short in a world title shot in the US for me, it will be close, but I think Kameda edges him out on points.

Fvck me, is it in the US? (goes to check) So it is! I kinda forgot Kameda is in with Haymon (who, with his "cushy fights on regular cable & then fvck you in hte arse on PPV for anything remotely decent" is who Eddie is basically emulating).

However, from the article:
Kameda side isn't done because his main focus is on Saturday. He doesn't even know about the fight yet

Looking forward to seeing Kameda's defence against Alejandro Hernandez this weekend, his last defence was meant to be shown over here but wasnt because it was too far down the bill,i dont think ive seen him before but read about him and his brothers etc,Koki's on the undercard

Dont know a lot about Hernandez other than the fact that he fought Omar Narvaez and Marvin Sonsona for world titles down at smaller weights

I actually think Tomoki's world title fights playing second fiddle to Fonfara's 10 rounder on Saturday

Seem two of Kamedas fights the last one and the one against Ambunda.

Like the look of him and he is only 23. I know the Jamoye fight was mentioned but he would have been a kid then and is still young now. That said McDonnell will be the best opponent he has faced easily.

I want to go to Vegas fight next year and this one might be it if Chavez Froch doesn't happen.

Why would you be prejudiced against the Kameda's Datsue?

Yeah it will be in Vegas, McDonell said as much in an ifl interview. I'd imagine on the undercard of one of the Vegas superstars.

Im not sure if he was banned when the Jamoye fight took place (odds are that his father, Shiro, wasb though). The three are eeffectively banned now with Tomoki being regarded as a "foreign fighter" by the JBC.

Tomoki as a fighter is several levels above his brothers.

Koki is a 3 weight world champion in similar fashion to Broner (picked up 2 easy titles, a bit of controversy, had 1 or 2 good wins, lost to the best guy he faced and skipped a division).

Daiki, who I do actually quite like now a days is a 2 weight world champion but the runt of the family (his win over Guerrero last year was solid and he showed guts and toughness against a well over weight LovoriLiborio Solis). His reputation as a pudendum comes from his fight with Naito from years ago, different fighter now.

ToTomoki, as previously mentioned, is the most rounded. As Datsue said he is a lot of flash and I think against a good pressure fighter (Suriyan?) he would struggle a lot.

As for the McDonnell fight, I think this could be like the Wake situation where something is said to happen but something else does, McDonnell vs Daiki! Mark it now! Tomoki to get injured or something before ever signing anything or even knowing about a fight ;)

I was just thinking if the Kameda/McDonnell fight comes off then unless its a draw the WBA Regular will become vacant and we will have a WBA Unified champ at Bantam like Froch up at SMW

Eddie mindset = Kal Yafai for the vacant WBA Bantamweight Championship of the world(we wont have to tell the world its only a Regular strap)

And Eddie with a straight face could tell us that Jamie McDonnell and Kal Yafai are both the WBA Bantamweight champion. Obviously in the real world Juan Carlos Payano is the WBA champion, but we shouldn't let facts get in the way of things.

Tomoki wins a SD in a fight that seemed like a clear win for him in my opinion.

I think him and McDonnell are evenly matched.

Well after reading all the hype about Kameda i was dissapointed in him last night,he's fast but lacked timing and accuraccy, also a bit one paced and one dimensional,Hernandez was more to blame for it being an ugly fight seeing as he never got going until about the 10th round,i would have liked to have seen Alejandro go for it a lot more coz he may have has success as Tomoki didnt seem to like being hustled later on,

I was surprised it was a SD,i had it 117-111 Kameda

Jamie McDonnell while himself never looks spectacular,he's got a great chance of beating Kameda, with his height and experience,he can outbox Tomoki over 12 rounds

Fonfara vs Ngumbu was a good scrap though,Andrzej won a UD,98-92,97-93,97-93(i had it 97-93)

Wtf, it was SD??? I recorded & watched this morning, I actually fastforwarded straight to the Fonfara fight without bothering to hear the scorecards, I didn't think anything except a UD was possible. Guess past experience should have told me otherwise though...

As for Kameda, he looked pretty good but obviously the eye injury affected him considerably. McDonnell doesn't have too much to fear, although I'd favour Kameda to beat him. McDonnell would seem to have a big size advantage, mind you.

Thought about the same. How the judges scored the Kameda fight so close was terrible. I thought he won the first 5-7 rounds at a canter, looked to lack the big shot but Alejandro was extremely tough and never been down(only stopped by Santa Cruz on an injury)? I think they were both pretty heavy on fight night, watched it this morning slightly blurry eyed but both bulked up to almost Light-weight? Not sure how much McDonnell bulks up on fight day. Alejandro celebrating at the end of the fight was the top comedy moment for me, until the cards came out!

I don't think Kameda is the big star he reckons but he does look dangerous when he goes to the body, especially with the left. Jamie can do it if can cope with the big fight pressure, if the fight takes place in the US, as reported.

Ngumbu put up the best fight he could but still thought Fonfara could've stopped him maybe Ngumbu had hurt him more than we thought, he did shift a few decent shots.

The first fight between Fortune-Cotto was just one of those fights that had you both scratching at your head and laughing into your coco pops. The 'dive' from Cotto could've graced any Premier League match this weekend.

'Cos I'm an uncharitable man. Their attempts at "Attitude" come off so forced it just makes me cringe, their endless hype, & their naff wannabe bad-boy haircuts. Wearing shades indoors.

They remind me of that Japanese computer games designer, whatsisface, has got a number in his name: they're like an 80s American action film's idea of what a Japanese bad-boy should be. Does that make any sense? Plastic. Try-hard.

But like Boxing Prospect said, Tomoki is the best of them FWIW though I think Scott & handsofstone, from their single look at him, have discovered basically everything about the kiddie there is to know.

That's it. He's unbeaten, he's fast, he's flashy-ragged & he don't hit anywhere near as hard as he thinks he does. I don't think he has the technical foundations to cope with a good pressure fighter either.

He's a good fighter. It's a good fight. I favour McDonnell. If Kameda's name wasn't Kameda, I'd still favour McDonnell.

Reportedly the WBO might be ordering an immediate rematch between T Kameda & Hernandez due to the closely contest bout last weekend.

It that is true, it would mean that Kamdea would have to drop the WBO Title to fight Jamie for his WBA Title (if he does indeed win it)

That would be pure bollocks Kameda won the fight easily and yet Paul Smith was ignore in a much closer fight with even worse scoring

Guessing it will be the rematch then, can't see Kameda dropping his title to fight McDonnell in a non title fight.

Surely thats bollocks,i only gave Hernandez 3 rounds,it was a dire fight and who else apart from Alejandro and his camp felt it was a robbery
