Please don't let this be true, it's a horrible idea. If it does go ahead, I'm picking it as 'Worst fight of 2006' already. Two guys standing off, throwing a total of 10 punches a round between them. Seriously, what relevance would this fight have to anything?

Oh dearie dearie me...

How come, every time the average armchair fan goes "wow, boxing's really healthy, look at all these great fights, big attendance figures & c.", something like this shite gets announced?

Are the powers that be psychic or what?

Next to be announced: Chavez vs Meldrick Taylor III: This Time It's In Zimmer Frames!

jesus fornicating christ. jones-hopkins I was awful. hopkins-taylor I & II were drab. Jones-Tarver III wasn't any better.

well, if ppl are stupid enough to buy this, it's their own problem. this can't be healthy for boxing, recent snoozers getting massive ppv figures. how do the buyers feel when they actually get to see the crap? value for money, hmmm...this tendency will run boxing into the ground

at least Clinton Woods isn't fighting Jones now.

are you sure it's not some joke. boxingtalk helped fuel the toney-hopkins fiasco, which never actually happened...

I think some of you are going over the top, don't think the fight is that bad a match up. I wouldn't pay £15 to watch it but I'd still like to see two boxing maestroes go at it.

Two legends, over the hill but not entirely shot, should be relatively interesting.

Thing is Goz, they won't go at it. It'll be the biggest stand-off of all time. Two old guys reluctant to throw a punch, surely? They're both legends, without a doubt, but what on earth would this prove? One of them is older than the other?

Interesting fight in my opinion, might not be the most exciting but one where I finding it hard to pick a winner. Both on decline, Roy is more so. However, Hopkins' style is suited to how much decline Roy is in.

So I take it no one really believed the BM article on Jones vs Tarver 3, and how him exercising his demons might make him come again (obviously not the same level as before, but still championship level). I actually thought there was a hint of truth in it.... I think Roy just needed to go the distance to restore some confidence.

It could be interesting, before Tarver 3 I would have said horrible mismatch.

I reckon Hopkins is going to knock his block off.

Why O Why didn't Hopkins agree to this fight when it actually would have meant something? Hopkins may have made himself a lot of money at the end of his career, but he let some of the very biggest fights slip through his fingers due to his ridiculous demands for purses.

Whilst I've been critical of Calzaghe in the past, it does seem that Hopkins was expecting the earth to fight Joe, wasn't he offered something like 5 million for a fight with Calzaghe, or was it 2 and he asked for 5, I forget now.

He's never been a draw, and as much as I appreciate his skills, his fights since Trinidad have been boring as fornicate. The only reason the Trinidad fight was good was because Tito forced the action all the way getting himself knocked out as a consequence.

Now we have Hopkins facing a guy who is petrified of being knocked out and whose only aim in fights seems to be to finish on his feet.

Perhaps Jones Jr won't be scared of Bernard's punch power, and maybe he doesn't need to, but this has 'world paint drying championships' written all over it.

I thought his performance vs Joppy was his career best and that was a lovely contest, the only reason it was boring was because it was so one-sided. Plenty of action.

The Trinidad contest was better because the result was unexpected.

Should have been made 3-4 years ago - Both fighters look on their way down, especially Jones who has degraded shockingly.

I guess it's all about the dollars, and the Yanks will buy it up in droves, because that's what they do best.

Will they though? I don't know about that, Hopkins isn;t a draw, and Jones has always been more popular with TV execs than the PPV buying public.

I want to see this because Hopkins... IS ... a LIGHT- HEAVYWEIGHT and always has been the fucken fraud, and Jones could still give him a good beaten if he keeps his chin out of the way.

All things considered this could be a very, very good fight!

Does anyone seriously think Hopkins could shake up Jones Jr even at this stage of their careers? And even if he did he'll never pull the trigger quick enough to land any kind of serious follow up punches. Jones is a faded force but he's not that vulnerable yet. The version that showed up last time wasn't half bad, certainly fit enough to outwork the smaller, less powerful Hopkins.

In any case Jones didn't suddenly become glass jawed, truth is he probably never had cast iron chops to start with. He just sadly lost the bubble of protection that surrounded him thanks to a super human level of conditioning. He showed in flashes in that Tarver rubber match that he'd have had an absolute laugh with the guy in his prime, where he could work as hard as he needed to no matter who the opponent was. Now he just hasn't got it, he gets tired like everyone else. It's only circumstances that has allowed a fighter like Tarver to stand top of the pile, with Jones Jr's scalp. It's not a whole lot more real to me than Kevin McBride beating Mike Tyson.

Err yeah right, that's why Hopkins usually comes in UNDER the 160 pound limit on fight night.

He also walks around very near his fighting weight all the time.

Tarver walks around at over 200 lbs, now THAT is what light heavies weigh between fights.
