Khaosai Galaxy overrated?

Post by -KOKid- »

Some people will claim that Khaosai Galaxy is one of the very best Asian fighters of all time. There's no doubt he was a solid fighter and would possibly have the style to beat everyone else from his or neighbouring weightclasses throughout history.

BUT, looking at his record in the 2002 Boxing Register, Galaxy only fought 3 fighters who were rated in the top 10 by Ring Magazine when they stepped into the ring against Galaxy. Looking at the records of other great fighters of the past, this is rather poor and I get a feeling he probably has been somewhat overrated.

I realise that the editors of Ring Magazine probably will not have the same knowledge of the Asian circuit, but still. Real good fighters get noticed, and we all know how good a fighter can look against lesser experienced opposition, which was defintely the csae for several of Galaxy's opponents.

I look forward to other opinions as to why and what made Galaxy a great fighter.

Galaxy as a whole is probably overrated. However, he is still a top 100 all-time fighter in my opinion. The one thing about Galaxy that is definitely not overrated is his power. Galaxy had amazing power for his size, and is definitely one of, if not the most, powerful flyweight in boxing history. Galaxy did fight a lot of bums, but that's pretty much the case for all asian fighters. The fact of the matter is Galaxy is the best super flyweight in history, and even though his competition was slim his ability most certainly wasn't.

For quite a large chunk of Galaxy-reign, The Ring Magazine only rated eight traditional divisions. At that time, Khaosai could have met The Ring-rated super flys ONLY in unification bouts. He never did have a unification fight albeit he went to Indonesia to knock out Ellyas Pical who had been stripped of IBF title due taking up Galaxy.
