There was a similarity to begin with, little stiff and robotic, very muscular, so there are similarities. However, Josh is getting more relaxed.Gazmac81 wrote:No hes the new Anthony Joshua ( i hate when people make those statements)
I think he will do better than Bruno, he wil win a world title and defend it!

Joshua is fighting better opposition than Bruno even after Bruno had won the European and lost a world title fight? Bums like Chuck Gardner. So I wouldn't worry to much.

Re: Joshua is the new bruno
I remember Bruno when he was an amateur before he got into the weights-he was pretty lean and quick. His ABA final with the tragic Rudi Pika (who was also a good prospect)

He was lean and young ,frank came round my house when I was a kid about 10 just after he beat pika and I remember the look on his face when he was given a bowl of bacon and cabbage ,not impressed but he still ate it if I remember rightBroomhall wrote:I remember Bruno when he was an amateur before he got into the weights-he was pretty lean and quick. I can see the similarities. But I think Josh has a far better boxing brain. also Bruno's early opponents were awful; flabby but undersized heavies.
Ultimately, if Josh's chin is decent, he's miles above

Re: Joshua is the new bruno
No mate, I just think Joshua had a longer amateur career and it was under full time lottery funding with top coaches. Bruno was every bit as talented, but he just didnt get the chance to develop in his early pro career.reggaereggae wrote:I can see the similarities. Also disagree with you about the comparison is quality, Tony Moore was a good pro, so was Lithgo, Neilson and Allen. Ledoux was on a winning run and had plenty of experience when he fought Bruno. Even some of the tomato cans that Bruno fought are very comparable to the guys Joshua is fighting. I dont see any great differences personally.
Re: Joshua is the new bruno
Sounds a lot like Joshua's current opponents.reggaereggae wrote:I can see the similarities. But I think Josh has a far better boxing brain. also Bruno's early opponents were awful; flabby but undersized heavies.

Re: Joshua is the new bruno
I saw the below interview with Malik Scott, the other day, and he mentions that Joshua more than held his own in recent sparring with Klitchko. Don't think Scott has any particular agendas, so by all accounts he's the real deal, but only time will tell I guess.
I don't think he's going to have to face a Tyson like Bruno did though

Joshua's opposition has been very good.lefty wrote:Sounds a lot like Joshua's current opponents.
He's a one year novice and he's already ranked 23rd in the world by BoxRec.
Re: Joshua is the new bruno
They're still not great opponents though. The boxrec rankings dont mean a great deal either. Otake who Quigg is fighting in his next fight is in the top 10 and having watched him, he's not that good in all honesty.Horse wrote:Joshua's opposition has been very good.lefty wrote:Sounds a lot like Joshua's current opponents.

His ranking still suggests that his opposition has been pretty good.lefty wrote:They're still not great opponents though. The boxrec rankings dont mean a great deal either. Otake who Quigg is fighting in his next fight is in the top 10 and having watched him, he's not that good in all honesty.
He doesn't deserve the abuse he gets for his level of competition.

Re: Joshua is the new bruno
Well you've watched about 2 minutes of footage? Have you seen any of Otake's key fights, such as the ones against Nakajima or Hisanaga (who were both way up the rankings when Otake beat them) or is it all based off of 2 minutes of footage from like 3 years ago?lefty wrote:They're still not great opponents though. I'v read up on several Asian boxing reports on Otake and the consensus is that he seems to look like he is struggling almost all the time because of an untidy come forward style and poor defence but he always comes through to win in the end off the back of a big workrate and seemingly good chin.

Boxing prospect who knows his asian boxing isnt big on him either and he's a guy whose opinion on boxing from that part of the world i trust.jameswilson wrote:Well you've watched about 2 minutes of footage? Re: Joshua is the new bruno
Well you say that but when Quigg's opponent was rumoured to be Shingo Wake by him your' first post was to the tune of 'ahhhh Iv just looked at his record and he's lost 4 times!!!!!!'
Also while I also respect his opinion Iv yet to see his take on any of Otake's key fights that have got him the ranking. All Iv got to go off is the fight reports Iv read. Also according to prospect Otake wasn't gonna take the fight because he had a defence of his Japanese title upcoming (hardly a reason to turn down a WT fight.)

Re: Joshua is the new bruno
I have watched Wake aswell though and he's clearly the better fighter of the two. Otake is a come forward plodder with little power. His style will suit Quigg down to the ground.jameswilson wrote:Well you say that but when Quigg's opponent was rumoured to be Shingo Wake by him your' first post was to the tune of 'ahhhh Iv just looked at his record and he's lost 4 times!!!!!!'

Re: Joshua is the new bruno
I don't doubt what his style is and don't doubt Wake is better. But that doesn't mean his ranking is enormously inflated. It's what it is based off of his recent victories over guys who are also highly rated.lefty wrote:I have watched Wake aswell though and he's clearly the better fighter of the two. It also doesn't make it a bad a fight or an 'abomination' like someone said in another thread before calling for the Galahad fight (Galahad having his ranking based off of fighting..........)
