This issue has run for weeks, some agree with it and others don't. Bellew and Cleverley are not PPV fighters in my view and a strong undercard shouldn't be the deciding factor in a £17 extra charge; undercard boxers cannot yet headline a card. No matter the intricacies of how SKY divvy up the subscription money they should be able to screen these shows with the money they get from us every month. It's a fackin liberty (best danny dyer voice please).

Exactly right. The way misMatchroom have been bigging this fight up I see exactly the same thing in Eddies mention of Coyle v Campbell which make me think that a) PPV is here to stay & b) Lowish level British fights are now classed as PPV.

The live gate on the night plus sponsorship should pay all the purses and costs for the hall and security etc.

The promoter will be on a contract with Sky and will receive a fee for each show plus possible bonuses.

Sky get their money from our routine sports package subscriptions plus adverts.

Somebody somewhere is simply being greedy and I don't believe the purses come to over a million.

Hope it's a complete disaster .

Not being funny mate but it sounds like u don't really know what your talking about!

First of all I'm not defending this card as I expected allot more from it but at the end of the day your statement is well off.

Sky give between £100,000-£120,000 for a boxing show. Then if you look at gate receipts for this fight you are looking at anywhere from £300,000 to 500,000 (max)
Then if you add advertising at a push maybe £100,000
So if u add all that up and I'm talking the top end of all them figures your looking at £520,000

That's not even half the wages! Eddie has come out and said the wages alone for this show are around the million mark, then u have to hire the arena hire the security hire the staff to host it pay the police as there must be one police guard per 100 crowed, then there are obviously all sorts of other costs.

This event could never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever be made without pay per view!
People live in a fairytale world,

As I said earlier I am not saying this is an amazing event and it's great for everyone but I am a realist and I know it couldn't be made without Ppv,

Another point people need to wake up and realise is that sky pay buttons for boxing. Everyone says oh my skysports subscription should pay for this, we'll probably less than 2% of your sky money goes towards boxing 90%+ will go to football then the rest will go to golf cricket rugby etc before it goes to boxing.
If the card couldn't be put on without PPV because of the purses, then split it into two or three shows on Sky Sports and make the money from that.

When 10k tickets have been sold and the cheapest ticket is £40, then the absolute minimum they will make on the gate is £400k and as the ticket prices rise to £150 and £300 for VIP, it will certainly be more than the £500k max you state. And if you're adding up the top end of the figures you've quoted, it's £720k not £520k and it will be well more than that. There doesn't need to be one policeman for every hundred people in the venue, there would be 100 police in the venue at that rate and if that applied to boxing, the same would apply to football, so there would be hundreds of officers at each game.

The numbers can be made to add up without PPV, but Eddie chose to go overboard in a failed attempt to justify ripping people off. There's no need for George Groves to be on the bill for example, Hearn has no contract with him and he will be on a hefty purse, but they stuck him on there anyway, after the arena had sold out in a fight that doesn't add anything to the PPV value of the show, in fact I'd say it detracts from it as it's a complete mismatch.
Here u go

Live Concerts 0 2 private security 2 officers
4 private security 3 officers
1 sergeant
6 private security 5 officers
1 sergeant
8 private security 8 officers
2 sergeant
10 private security for each 500 attendees 2 additional officers

I have just copied and pasted it but it comes up strange from my iPhone, for every 2001 people there must be 8 police officers 2 sergeants and 10 security and then it keeps going up each 1000, so I was wrong with my 1 police per 100 but it is a substantial amount and still 1 police man every couple of hondred

This is exactly the point - there's no reason to keep saying "oh, this card could never be made without PPV", because frankly no-one gives a fvck.

No-one was calling for this card to be made apart from Sky & Matchroom. The rest of us didn't ask for it, don't want it & won't pay for it.
I totally agree with your comment no one did ask for it to be ppv and it could be made over 4/5 saturday night shows but i was simply pointing out to the people who say this show could be done without ppv, It couldnt ever be made with out it in one show

Though I doubt very much that Eddie will spend much of his profit on headache tablets - it seems that us fans and forum users are getting the headache; it shouldn't be like this and we shouldn't be so quick to pass this off as a reasonable and practicable business decision - things like this will further hurt the sport while enriching already wealthy men.

is it skys money thats put up to pay for better opponents ect ???

I think your missing the point mate, it couldn't in a million years be made without box office, Hearn has openly said that this bill is costing over a million in wages for the fighters. Sky give £120,000 for a big fight so as u can see the numbers don't add up,

It's left to a simple choice make it Ppv or don't have it at all,

Eddie Hearn should have made the under card 5/6 50-50 fights then everyone would have been happy to pay the £17 but as it stands there are only 2/3 good fights in the card so far
Maybe they shouldnt of made it then. Most people arent overly bothered about seeing this fight again! It's not like the demand to see the fight is that big.

Righthook, you seem to be keen on the actual main event and justifying the ppv because of the fighter purses. Would you be defending it as much if the headline fight was the BJS v Eubank Jnr one with the undercard remaining the same (Groves etc)?

I don't know how on earth u have come to that conclusion mate??????????

As I have said now a million times I don't agree with the card being Ppv! At the start I said if eddie sticks to what he is saying then yes it will Deffo b worth it as he promised a beeped card full of competitive fights but as it stands it is a good card but not enough 50/50 fights,

I am not justifying anything all I am trying to say is that the people who believe u could put this stacked card on, on a normal Saturday night show must live in a different world as there are too many big names to pay there wages.

bellew cleverly imo is a great fight and if u would have had that with another 4/5 50/50 fights I don't think anyone would moan.

I don't mind paying the £17 for the bill as iv said before most people waste that on a taxi home or a takeaway so to get a full night of boxing and a good main event and 1 or 2 good fights then I will pay it but I wouldn't start saying what an amazing show, as I know it is average for Ppv,

The thing people need to realise is that sky pay buttons for boxing so eddie could only ever make this fight if Ppv is in place.

Let me ask you this.... Would you moan if Eddie said from now on if you want to watch any boxing on sky you have to pay £10 a month, I bet there would be an up roar, but that's what people pay for allegedly and if Eddie charged the same I could guarentee he would get more then 50x what he gets from sky sports. The point I'm trying to make here is the money you pay for sky sports, probably less than 2% goes to boxing so it is impossible to have huge cards without the Ppv

Five various alphabet titles on the line on this show so far...and they've still to 'find' one for Cleverly-Bellew and for DeGale-Periban. Just think how much they're taking out of the pot with all their various fees...and for what? I would argue that it is for wholly spurious reasons. I'd be very interested to know how much they are making from an unremarkable show that viewers have been told they need to pay more for to make it happen.

The elephant in the room is that we do pay SKY for the sports subscription that should have boxing at this level as a matter of course. To pay an extra charge for something that is not in any real sense 'special' or 'unusual' is plain wrong.

You make an analogy of paying for a taxi - running on that theme would you be happy to pay for a taxi home if you'd already paid for one, from the same firm that didn't turn up for you?

That is a justification and even saying it is average for a PPV is a slight justification. That is a drastic overstatement. The main event fight does not need to be a PPV, it's a fight between two european level fighters with no fanbase outside their local areas (if Cleverly eve has that).

Would i pay £10 specifically for boxing per month, yes i have done in the past for allegedly before i moved house. I'll probably get it set up again.

Would you pay the £17 for this PPV if the headline fight was changed to another domestic clash e.g. BJS v Jnr as i asked? Not having a go, you're into this card, the majority aren't so i just want to see if it's because your fighter is involved?

If the fight couldn't be made without PPV, don't make it. There's no great clamour to see it and we've already seen them fight, with a world title on the line, for nowt, since then both have been knocked out, put 2 stone in weight on, grown beards and now without anything on the line, we're asked to pay £17 to watch it.

How much are Cleverley and Bellew getting paid?

Is that the benchmark now for a bout going PPV?

It seems to me that the promoter should take a hit on a bout such as this rather than tug at the heartstrings of boxing fans - like our £17 is going into Bellews or Cleverleys pocket - yeah right.

Sorry I missed this question earlier,

Yes 100% I would pay it. Like I say I'm not saying I enjoy paying the £17 but for a full night of boxing I would pay it. I waste that on a takeaway on a night out so for a full night of boxing yes I would pay it but I wouldnt b glad I payed it

As for the taxi reference you made, it is completely different mate a better comparison would be because you pay for a bus pass should you be able to ride a train with it?

Sky sports give eddie peanuts for boxing so he can't have good shows without Ppv,

I'd just like to point out that i do believe eddie has done allot of good for boxing and I enjoy allot of shows he puts on but at the same time he had a great chance this show to silence his doubters and put an amazing night of 50/50 fights on but instead he chose to put 2/3 good fights and the rest just big names in 80-20 fights.

As iv stated earlier I genuinly believe that half the people just like to jump on the band wagon and all slate eddie, when he first announced he was going a Ppv event with bellew cleverly head lining and he said he would have an amazing card, people all started giving him stick and moaning before even hearing a single fight on the under card,

That is because we knew in advance that Eddie gives us this stacked card shit then puts soft option opponents in from the weight below. It didnt take someone looking into their crystal ball to see that he is coming out with the same spiel but giving us the same dross that he has for a long time.

Maybe Eddie actually thinks that a 'stacked undercard' means he just has to stack the left hand side of the card? Perhaps it's all just a big misunderstanding & he genuinely believes he's giving good value, hopefully someone will put him straight soon.
