That could very well make the difference in the fight.

Main events should have requested a referee from a neutral country.

They didn't even get a good enough purse for Kovalev to say nothing of a neutral ref.

I heard he's only getting $500,000?

Seems low pay for a big HBO fight for three world titles. I remember Andre Berto received $1.3 mil for a HBO fight against a journeyman a few years ago.

But if Kovalev wins, he'll likely be paid well for his next fight, especially if it's a unification with Stevenson.

He's getting what he deserves in a fight of this magnitude, Hopkins is the name here in the US and we all know that BHop can't draw flies to sh*t so with the low amount of viewership they'll more than likely get (especially since it is PPV) there wouldn't be enough in the pot to grace Sergey with that much money.

This article suggests that Kovalev is making over $1 million. In it Kovalev also says that he fought the first three years of his career without being paid, as he was trying to find a promoter. According to him the first purse he received was $5k for the Boone rematch.

BHOP's tough background is well-known, but Kovalev grew up poor and if his claims are true failed to get paid for a pro bout until just 2.5 years ago, so he's come a long way too.

Further proof for Freedom that the man who happens to be "white" isn't a victim of unfairness because his skin color, he just wasn't promoted in the manner he is today.

Hopkins will still make more based on his version of titles and namesake.

The fact is, HBO generally pays some boxers more than others.

For example GGG and Kovalev make much smaller purses than Andre Berto used to.

It turns out that Kov really is making a $500k purse according to Rafael:
Purses for #HopkinsKovalev: BHop $1M (plus % of profits), Kovalev $500k (plus % of profits), Ali $100k, Abregu $75k

Looking at that though, it's not exactly like Hopkins is making big bucks for this fight either.

Let's hope the referee is fair to both fighters, lick.

It shouldn't be too much to hope for.

It's because HBO doesn't have the budget for boxing that they once did.

Times are changing and the premium channels are slowly dying.
