Where is Richard Commey?
Where is Richard Commey?
He won the Commonwealth Championship months ago to Derry Mathews. He's an incredible numbers with big knockouts but he's not with very important promoters. He was with Steve Goodwin Promotions but he doesn't appear in it's website and I want to know if somebody knows who is he promoted¿ What is his amateur pedigree? did he win anything important or how many fights did he make?

Re: Where is Richard Commey?
He only had about 12 amateur fights then turned pro.
He's possibly fighting on somebody elses show next, so I guess Steve took him off the site for that reason.
I know they've officially offered Coyle/Mitchell and Cardle the fight but all have been turned down.
Announcement soon regarding that next fight.

I answer to the question - being avoided like the plague.
I don't know why a serious promoter doesn't take lads like this up - I can't imagine he wants mega bucks and with his power a promoter could build him up (you know, like, actually promote somebody who isn't necessarily already a ticket seller).

There's history between British promotors and Richie. He was branded a nobody and a joke fight by Coldwell. Richie's manager doesn't forget this and works tirelessly to secure his lads future. He will come good, just takes a little time. All that glitters isn't Matchroom, there's decent promotors around Europe.

I'm not sure he is as heavy handed as some may think, his record certainly suggests it but the few times I've seen him he overwhelms opponents with plenty and his work rate is superb rather than a one bomb merchant.Good fighter though he will be right up there with all top domestic LW's next few years and his swagger is top class 8)

Re: Where is Richard Commey?
Nobody wants Commey because he isn't very marketable either as a ticket seller or to TV or for sponsorship. I got a load of tweeted offers from his then (possibly still now) manager asking to have him as an opponent for marketable ticket sellers who ended up fighting for titles on Sky shows, meaning that if they had boxed Commey they would have to sell all the tickets in order to facilitate a pay day for a fighter who was supposedly on his way to a world title shot which didn't make sense to anyone exceptCommey so of course we avoided, I would imagine Dave C would have taken the same view hence why he didn't do any business with them.
If they'd have said theyd finance it all and our guys were going together well paid then it would have happened but that wasn't the case.
Now he is Commonwealth champ it should be easy enough to make subsequent fights even if it does cost the promoter as he possibly won't generate much revenue for whoever puts it on.
Yes ther are lots of big promoters in Europe but I don't see what they would gain from putting on a Ghanaian Commonwealth champ?
Boxing is a short career so for sure Commey needs to be more active & climb the rankings in order to get the fights he is looking for but that will take a lot of investment and skilled management.
It's not an easy one as to how to carry on building him here, he must have cost his backers a fortune in airfares and putting him up & paying license/medical fees etc not to mention opponents costs.

This is Michael Amoo-Bediako, Richard Commey's manager, if anyone out there has got Mickey Helliet's number give him a call and tell him to call as I want to speak to him personally about the comments and lies he has posted about my fighter.

Re: Where is Richard Commey?
Please specify what I have said that was untrue? Michael you asked our guys to box him when they were on ticket deals on our shows. Neither of my guys would have ducked Commey other than for the reason that it didn't make good business to us. TBH if Ben Murphy was still fighting it would have more appeal now as there would be a title on the line.
Don't get upset, the question was asked 'what's happening with RC?' & I gave my opinion. If you disagree Thats totally cool with me, but I still think what I think. If you find a big Euro promoter to invest in him I'd be happy for you but having managed a lot of good African fighters I'm fait well aware of how difficult it can be to market them & get them big fights.
