Khan fighting Alexander -opportunity missed

Post by big lennox »

Surely a fight with Brook in the new would pay more than a potential banana skin against Alexander? I don't want to say that Khan is afraid of Brook, because he tends to go in with anyone, and even when hurt, try and fight on, but maybe he felt the risk agBainst Brook was too much, if he is looking to be a Mayweather opponent?

For the record, I think Brook stops Khan.

The BS interview from Khan on the sky sports website made me laugh. Typical nonsense saying he has listened to the fans and they want him to fight Alexander over Brook. He obviously wants a fight with Floyd but surely a win over Brook is just as likely to lead to that fight as beating Alexander. His advisors are clearly afraid of Brooks power otherwise they would be looking to cash in on a stadium fight in the UK and adding a world title.

I dont think a win over brook is more likely to lead to a fight with Floyd to be honest. I think Brook is a harder fight for sure but Alexander is a fellow haymon fighter and there's probably more chance of Floyd who is associated with Haymon looking at khan beating Alexander and saying ok il fight Khan versus him seeing khan beating Brook and thinking the same. The Brook fight will be there for awhile as Hearn in particular see's the pound notes flashing before his eyes understandably.

The Brook Khan fight was nailed on until Brook's recent issue.
Kell has to find a way back first then I expect the hype machine to go into full pelt to bring the fight back on to the agenda. There is still a possibility of an open air summer fight Brook v Khan in the UK.

Khan v Alexander in vegas is a huge fight, in a fight or twos time after this Khan v Brook in the UK will have been built up into an absolute mega fight. Im happy to wait a little while longer for it to become a fight the world wants to see rather than a fight the UK wants to see.

Still not sure it's a fight the world would wanna see if Khan beat Alexander. If Brook beat someone like Thurman in the meantime aswell though, then I think it would/will be huge.

I don't think it is a huge fight in Vegas. Alexander certainly isn't a ticket seller and is rebuilding after a major loss. I see this as the Khan team picking the easiest route to a Floyd fight. He has to fight someone credible but Alexander is also a former light welter and doesn't have much of a dig.

If Khan beats Alexander then he'll possibly fight Mayweather for the big money. Win or lose against Mayweather and he can have a big fight in the UK with Brook.

If Khan loses to Alexander he can still fight Brook for big money over here.

If Khan fights Brook first and loses, he'll never fight Mayweather and will be fighting for smaller purses in general.

That's how i see it, quite sensible from Khan really as the Alexander fight is a no-lose gamble financially

But beating Brook (as I think he would) is less likely to lead to the fight with Mayweather than beating Alexander is.

Khan doesn't want to lose to a British fighter that is what Khan is afraid of. He wants to be the biggest British name.

Brook is a none event right now until he gets back training and probably has a tune up after his injury. Khan is just staying busy and taking a fight that could get him inline for a Mayweather fight. This way he can fight Alexander and providing he wins he has a great chance of fighting both Floyd and Brook in 2015. I'd say he's doing the right thing. Alexander still has a bit of a name and to be honest anyone who gets in the ring with Khan has a punchers chance, so Alexander isn't any more of a threat than fighting an unknown, but he's substantially less dangerous than some of the other names out there for Khan.

Khan vs Alexander is a good fight!

Post by Crease »

I actually think that this is going to be a good fight, it will be close and competitive. But I'm still predicting an Amir victory.

This is going to be a difficult fight for Khan. I wouldn't discredit Alexander as an opponent, he's still a solid top 10 guy in the Welterweight division. I mean let's face it, the guy has only lost two fights in the past ten years and he's never been stopped. Not to mention that he clearly outboxed Maidana (seeing as he fought Floyd twice, we can safely describe him as a "top contender" or else we would have to knock Floyd's choice of opponent)

Alexander is still a ranked contender despite his loss to Porter last year.

Looking at this fight, I think Amir's speed will win him the fight. But he'll need to be wise when fighting Alexander, the guy is a talented fighter.

I wouldn't say it's a missed opportunity; it's actual a good choice of opponent.

Alexander is a recognised name with credibilty, but he is beatable.

Khan, like all other top fighters at 147 & 154 are sat in their mansions waiting for a phone call or email from Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Khan -v- Brook would be massive, but it would still be massive next year, even if Khan fought & lost to Mayweather; also, Brook is injured right now, so Khan can't risk staying idle.

Agree if does beat Alexander to get the Floyd fight - then loses against Mayweather, he will still have options. And the Brook fight would become a very attractive opportunity at that point.

Yeah i mean a couple of fights for both kell and khan, if kell can build on his win against porter and scalp another good US fighter then his style could get him alot of interest in the US. Khans already big over there.

To be honest I don't know why Khan didn't take the fight with brook, imo it's worth allot more and if I was an English fighter I would want to come home and beat the guy go had been calling me out for years I front of the whole of the country.

I think mayweather will not fight Khan even if he wins his next fight so I think the brook fight will then finally get made

Its a big fight. Personally if i was Brook i'd picking opponents to get me to JMM, he's not getting mayweather, khans kind of interested in fighting him but is after mayweather. Fight maybe Guerrero, maidana, if brook can beat them either khan is going to be calling him out or the JMM fight is realistic.
