Barrera I liked.
Earnie Shavers back in the early2000's when he first came to UK.
He's just been back and toured with Joe Bugner and Richard Dunn.
Jake La Motta has done a few tours but he's really getting on now.
Also did a great dinner here in Sheffield a year ago with Rhodes Nelson Brook and Herol.
I'm really looking forward to 21 November - the 50th birthday of Wincobank and a special tribute night to Brendan. The old school will be out in force.

I've heard from a few different people over the years who have met Barrera and always said that he is a really good guy.

I forgot to say, one of my other favourites was Barry McGuigan. He sang a few songs with his band when he came to a Birmingham dinner show. He was surprisingly good (as a singer and during his dinner interview)

Barry McGuigan strikes me as a bright spark. His dad was a good singer .Are these events good? I've not been to one before?

Sugar Ray Leonard was my favourite. I've met pretty much everyone on the dinner circuit, including Duran, Hagler, Hearns, Tyson, Roy Jones, Benn, Eubank, Bruno, Khan, Hatton, McGuigan, Collins, Calzaghe, Barrera, Henry Cooper, Lamotta, Joe Frazier, Lennox, Holmes and even Ali (but that was more of a photo opportunity due to his illness), etc. Yes I'm name dropping!

Leonard had a few great stories to tell and he also had a very good sense of humour.

Looking forward to Hearns coming next week.
I know efforts are being made to get the fabulous four all over together which would be a classic but I suspect Hagler may be the sticking point there.
Recently saw Froch in Newcastle who came across really well. To be fair I've enjoyed almost all of the "Evenings with". If you go with fellow boxing fans it can be a good chance to catch up and chat all things boxing as well as getting to meet a legend.

I've met Ali, Norton, Spinks, Shavers, Duran, Hagler, Leonard, Barrera, Benn, Collins, Calzaghe, Holyfield and many others.....obviously nothing compares with meeting Muhammad Ali, but Sugar Ray Leonard and Steve Collins were top blokes as was Barrera. Was dissapointed with Hagler, he's not the warmest of guys

Yeah its a shame, I spoke with Hearns on Tuesday & he confirms everything you say. Looks like the three of them are well up for it but Hagler still not so.
As for Tommy Hearns, I think the term living legend is used far too often these days but with Tommy its appropriate. He has a very dry sense of humour mind, he gave the auctioneer all sorts of abuse!

Here's something I'd like to know.....how the hell does a guy like Marvin Hagler retire to and settle in Italy? Italy?? Never got that one personally. I thought he'd have been happy in America or even Australia but Italy seems like a strange choice to me, unless he's got a cabin in the mountains by Lake Como or something.

what's the deal with Marco Antonio? Does he speak good English? I'm guessing he must do.

I bought a marker pen the day before he fought Khan in Manchester and travelled down to say hello and welcome to England and hopefully, if he didn't mind, to put his scrawl on my shirt for me. Anyway, I turned up at the Corn Exchange for 11am and waited...and waited and nothing happened. Then I was informed that it (by it I'm referring to the weigh-in here by the way) it had been moved into a hotel to be done privately behind closed doors. For some reason Wazza comes to mind here - could he have been promoting Khan at the time?

anyway, the long and short is that the Corn Exchange is split into two parts, separated by a road, and the fcking thing had been moved from the original location and was taking place on the other side of the road and down an escalator somewhere. I had no chance. Idiots! I even travelled home the same day as it was a last minute decision (weigh-in) and then went back the day after to see the fight.
