I mean this as a genuine question, not rhetorical - when in the last 10 fights did Hop knock anyone down? He dropped Shumenov once in his last fight.
Prior to that his most recent knockdowns scored were against Calzaghe in 2008 and Tarver in 2006. In his 16 fights since his last stoppage he's scored 3 knockdowns, all with right hands.

Got Lenny Daws at 10/3...clearly a mistake as he's a 1/4 favourite and shorter elsewhere
I mean I have no idea if 1/4 is right but had to snap it up at the price I got obviously, can anyone see his opponent winning?

He knocked the eastern euro dude down in his last fight. I think he also had a legit KD against Pascal ruled a slip.reggaereggae wrote:I mean this as a genuine question, not rhetorical - when in the last 10 fights did Hop knock anyone down? Fadli 7/2 to beat Daws, the Frenchman is a live opponent.
5/1 for Fadli to win on points

Re: Betting thread
Hopkins 5/2 for me.
Watched a bit of Kovalev, think he's absolutely made for Hopkins to systematically break down. Yes he's got power, but what else is he bringing to the table? Plods forward, slow, wide-open when throwing (especially to the body). Who exactly has he beat of any note? Hype job for me until he proves otherwise.

I'm taking Hopkins outright too, with a tiny bit on the KO at 16/1.jamiedavies02 wrote:Hopkins 5/2 for me.

Not as confident as you, I think Kovalev has a lot of potential. But the odds on the old guy are way too long IMO.

Folk are making the age-old mistake of just assuming a heavy puncher is crude without watching closely enough. Look at the artillery of punches he has, the way he cuts off the ring, the way he's always in position to punch, his balance, footwork, range, workrate. The guy has everything. He's a complete fighter, and he's already beaten some solid competitors - easily, so that 'unproven' tag is bullshit too. I like Bernard and he's a true great but his time is up, this is no fight for a 50 year old. He's going to get beat up.

I continue to not understand how exactly the opinion of boxing fans is so split but the oddsmakers continue to favour Kovalev considerably.
A lot of people not putting their money where their mouth is, annoyingly. Or just a lot of Russian money going on Krusher.

Possibly the finest/luckiest/bizzare bet I've ever made just come in. Had some on Ajisafe at the end of the round in play by stoppage @ 11/10, went for a leek, came back and greeted with the sight that he'd won!!!! Took a minute or two for it to sink in that Clarksons corner has retired him. all done and dusted within 1 minute!!!! Need Daws, Sturm and Kovalev to come in now.

Nice one. I noticed Clarkson just as it went to the ads at the end of the round and knew he was in trouble. Bet365 had the stoppage @11/10 at this stage but I already had a bet down on Ajisafe stoppage plus had no more funds left in my account! The Insider wrote:Possibly the finest/luckiest/bizzare bet I've ever made just come in. That's who I laid it with. Matty looked gassed but didn't expect the corner to retire him.ShadrachSimmo wrote:Nice one. good point. It's odd.... and usually indicates one should lay a bet on Hop..... but I'm not convincedRiddick Blowe wrote:I continue to not understand how exactly the opinion of boxing fans is so split but the oddsmakers continue to favour Kovalev considerably.

Well done, great shout.WelshJack wrote:Gone for Kovalev decision, he won't be wild once he eventually gets to Hopking look he is with lower class guys. He will stay composed and win wide. 7/2
I'm kicking myself about the decision bet, but I had no idea Bernard would have been able to take those hellish shots like he did. Frightening punch resistance.

We can't get them all right! I hope you didn't lose too much money.
I put a day of the fight bet of £50 on Kov by stoppage.... Lost it, but felt that actually Kov could've stopped Hop, despite Bernard's amazing chin (or rather forehead, as he tucked that chin in all fight.)
It was almost as if he gave Bernard too much respect - when he decided to unload in the last round, and for the first time, Hopkins was in big trouble....
Re: Betting thread
He was still swinging more than I thought, but my prediction was almost spot on. Doubt the bookie will stick to that price. They'll probably void it if they've priced it wrong as they are entitled to for some reason...although they don't have to afford us the same courtesy if we make a mistakeRiddick Blowe wrote:Got Lenny Daws at 10/3...clearly a mistake as he's a 1/4 favourite and shorter elsewhere![]()

Osullivan to beat Fitzgerald 10/11 is decent I think.
