LOL at the inexperienced Thompson giving his assessment, he only spoke of Kovalev as though all Hopkins does is hold or is incapable of boxing from the outside. We'll see.
Thompson has far more experience than the large majority of people making predictions, and I imagine more experience than you given his professional career and long amateur career. It's fallacious to evaluate an opinion based on it's source rather than purely its content anyway, and one of the stupidest comments I heard was from the HW veteran Jameel McCline, who suggested that Adamek may struggle with Kevin McBride's 'heavyweight speed'.

Hopkins TKO 10. He'd wear out garbage Stevenson and sit him down.

Kovalev would TKO Stevenson in 3.

Go to the 4:06 mark.
The big IF is if Hopkins can take Kovalev into deep waters.
The bigger IFs are, can Kovalev land his big money punch or can Kovalev outwork Hopkins (he would need to control the pace in order to do so).

Hopkins and Kovalev's strategy for the fight?

Post by lefty »

I cant be bothered to go through Hopkins's too much as I think he'll be on the backfoot trying to get Sergey to walk into shots on the whole. A lot of his quite unorthodox lead right hands where he comes burrowing in with his head dangerously.

Sergey on the other hand will box intelligently I think but will try and set a high pace and early doors in particular will target the body I think. Even his jab to the body is very hard and I can see him using it (and body shots in general) quite a bit between rounds 1 to 4. If Hopkins doesnt get blown out in that time period I think he'll start to head hunt more. So yeah, what's everyone else's thoughts on how it will go tactics wise?

The ending was good. Just as I thought Ali was wilting he turned the tables on Abregu.

Overall a good performance from Ali. He had a smart game-plan and was sharp.

Dunno. He outclassed this one. Last round was 10-8 imo.

I'm not usually one to be wise after the fact, but people really thought Krusher had no skills? That he was just a bigger lumberer like Pavlik?

Kovalev was outstanding, not just his power but his boxing, his ring craft and his discipline also. This guy is the real deal. Rather like Golovkin people dismiss him as just a banger, they are both much, much more than that.

The last round was particularly difficult to watch, Hopkins was getting battered from pillar to post. I'm just glad he's Ok.
