I am guessing it is not a serious poll.

I think it is about 20%. It is better to take beating from the unified champion than from some unknown like Beterbiev or Mekhontsev.

I think it might happen. It depends on what the money is like i think. I was just saying in another thread though that I think Stevenson might try and fight Hopkins first though to try and beat Hopkins in even more impressive fashion (knockout only way)

They could do a dual event though. That's occured in the past.

Not confident Kovalev/Stevenson ever happens.
Adonis has already went out his way to sidestep fight with Kovalev, Hopkins and Pascal one right after the other.

Adonis is STUCK.

Fight Bernard and dont KO him. People say....Kovalev is better.

Fight Bernard and lose to a guy who just got killed by Kovalev....he's screwed.

Dont fight Kovalev....and he's a pu$$y.

Fight Kovalev...and get brutally knocked out.

No matter what he does, it's lose-lose. Because he cant possibly beat Hopkins better than Kovalev. Kovalev is a much better boxer than Adonis is. Hopkins isnt getting knocked out by the only good punch Adonis throws, that left hook. Adonis has none of the diversity in his arsenal that Kovalev has. Nor the patience, nor the ring smarts.

He could knock Hopkins out in R1 then suddenly he becomes "unbeatable".

I can't see it though, Adonis has that viscous left hand but I see Hopkins outsmarting him, unless he (Hopkins) is totally shot now.

I thought Stevenson already ducked Kovalev. At least that's what some said had happened. I guess for Stevenson to fight Kovalev he would have to un duck him.

Betebiev - yes, Meknontsev - no. He is moved so slowly he actually reminds me the bigger version of Matt Korobov. Stevenson will probably be retired few years before Egor will fight for the title.

Hopkins would avoid that one handed fighter all night long. You dont beat Hopkins with 1 punch, even at this age. You need punch diversity. Adonis is as one-dimensional as they come and Hopkins would take his simple ass to school. Kovalev was right about that.

it would be nice to see an undisputed champ even if it's just to the fans but it won't happen any time soon i think steeson has to much to lose without the big pay day ......but it could be a great fight

The problem Kovalev is going to have now is that outside of Stevenson, who else is there that anyone really wants to see him fight? Beterbiev is probably the only other really interesting one and he probably wont be ready for another few fights atleast.

Correct, other than those 2 (and Ward going up) there is literally nothing for him. He would kill Dawson and Pascal and Fonfara. And moving to cruiser is boring. Nobody gives a crap about that division.

ESPN claim that Jean Pascal, by resigning with his promoter, has effectively become a Showtime fighter.

Andrzej Fonfara has recently signed-up with Al Haymon.

As all true boxing fans should already know by now... is that neither Showtime nor Al Haymon are willing to work with HBO.

I don't believe that Showtime would work with Main Events now, as a result of Kathy Duva's lawsuit. Also, Showtime's parent company, CBS has ended ties with Main Events in preference of Al Haymon.

What I'm basically trying to say is this... Fonfara and Pascal will not be fighting Kovalev anytime soon.
He hasnt really got anyone to fight then lol.

None. He wouldn't be getting the lion's share now, even though Kovalev was more than willing to get paid less to fight Adonis before and he still ducked.

Kovalev has to fight his IBF mandatory challenger Nadjib Mohammedi next. Mohammedi has decent power and good workrate, but his chin is far from good. I think Kovalev will KO him in 2-3 rounds.

If so... why are so many people thinking that a Kovalev-Stevenson bout is likely?

For sure, the fight may eventually become a possibility within the next five years, but whilst both men are "standing at opposite sides of the street" (i.e. HBO vs Showtime)... it simply isn't going to happen!

Anybody that possesses even a modicum of knowledge about the sport of boxing would realise this!
Fans want to see the best fight the best. And the networks too often take that from us. Money can fix everything tho. Even contracts.

Please expand on your point. Based on my understanding of the facts, Stevenson and Kovalev aren't big names, so the money simply isn't there to overcome such monumentally challenging hurdles.
It's funny. You are blaming the networks. BLAME ADONIS for fleeing for Showtime when he and Kovalev were fighting under the same banner. It's his fault, not Showtime's. He is chicken sh*t.

HBO told Yahoo that they chose not to renegotiate a deal with the Al Haymon managed Adonis Stevenson, so he signed to Showtime instead as his preference was to opt for a fight against the most lucrative bout against Bernard Hopkins rather than Kovalev.

It was also Hopkins plan to fight Stevenson and he even stated that he himself had no intention to fight Kovalev.

One of the main reasons why the Kovalev-Hopkins bout was made, was due to Kathy Duva's lawsuit against the likes of Al Haymon, Showtime, Adonis Stevenson, Golden Boy and (by proxy) Bernard Hopkins (as he's a shareholder in GBP)... when Hopkins agreed to fight Sergey (as he was the only free party that could have made such a move), it removed Main Events claims for damages.

Kathy Duva subsequently agreed to drop the lawsuit against all those parties, but retained the right to reinstate it should Hopkins pull out.

Those are the facts... now do you still feel that Stevenson chose not to fight Kovalev due to cowardice or politics?
So you're saying HBO wont be televising any fights with Al Haymon-managed fighters? What a complete crock of sh*t that is. Do you believe everything you read on the internet? Let me be the first to tell you that the movie Interstellar isnt based on a true story. I believe that Adonis had ducked and dodged every question ever thrown his way regarding Kovalev - even when the questions were pointed - he NEVER expressed a desire to want to fight Kovalev while still with HBO. Where there's smoke, there's fire. Sure, HBO may be getting sick of Al Haymon (who isnt?) but that doesnt mean Adonis wasnt more than happy to flee to another network to avoid the one guy everyone wanted him to face. The only time Adonis ever started talking about Kovalev was when he was officially under the Showtime banner and knew the fight could then not happen. When there actually WAS a chance for the fight to happen previously, well, you know the story...
