Lenny Daws fight, anyone?

Post by Bard of Boxrec »

Bit of an odd request but does anyone know if the Lenny Daws fights is being broadcast in any capacity? I seem to have money on Daws in a freak turn of events.

Thanks

Yes was on Channel 5.

He won by TKO in 10th against a very strange/awkward fighter.

Lenny done really well there.the fella was really really awkward, but Len kept his game and although it was a funny end.it was only going one way by then.great corner work by Ian Burbage and frank.ehat a bad cut.frank kept him fighting.well proud of him for that.mick Williamson will shake his hand for getting that past the ref. Lenny daws wins the EBU!

I'm chuffed for him, he was handed a raw deal last time and this has kind of gone under the radar.

Congrats, but the EBU-EU title is not the same as the EBU.

Lenny Daws fought very well last night against a very awkward & unorthodox opponent, the European referee was strange & didn't seem totally in control, Lenny's corner men were very good tending to his cut & keeping him in the contest. It was a strange ending but the right one, the Frenchman didn't want to leave the ring insinuating that he was on the end of a bad verdict, One of the ringside security men then had to give him a helping hand out of the ring as he was playing up.

It was a poor stoppage.

To be honest, I didn't think it was as bad a stoppage as everyone was making out. Daws was on the attack, and his opponent was looking shaky. If it had carried on, it would've only ended in favour of one guy.

The only reason that this thread is not already 5 pages long is that the result went in favour of the British boxer - if it had gone the other way it would be different (yes, I am aware that the ref wasn't British but the principle is the same).

I'd agree with that, I do think Daws was going on to win but thats not really the point the stoppage was awful.

Maybe I was just a bit too merry by this point, but I thought the stoppage was okay. I couldn't understand what the commentators were moaning on about.

I had had seven cans and half a bottle of champagne at this point though.

A very strange referee, allowed the fight to go on when the opponent got up and turned his back away and opponent was saying he didn't want to continue.... then stopped the fight after the opponent seemed to get some second wind and was looking more interested.

Wasn't there some old ruling that a 10-6 round would automatically mean a stoppage.... that's the only explanation I can think for the stoppage - the ref thought that 10-6 = stoppage. His opponent was down twice (second one more of a slip, push though) and got a point deducted. The ref didn't even see/ask if the opponent was okay to continue, just waved his hands as soon as he touched the canvas that second time.

In saying that, the 2nd KD wasn't much of a KD at all - was the Italian, DQ'd..... I think a case could be made for a DQ based on his antics - basically quitting after the first KD, the foul play, the hitting off a break etc - but a stoppage from the second KD.... No way.

Great to see Daws on channel 5. Lenny is always a pleasure to watch and only a few others could look that good against such an awkward opponent and keep their composure.

Apart from the slashing/surprise right handers that he took, Daws controlled the fight beautifully. The French guy was piddling about and has only got himself to blame. He could have chosen to fight, but would have been cut down to size quicker by Daws.

I'd love to see Hennessy get Lenny an EBU title shot on Ch 5. A fitting reward to cap a fine career.

Here's an interview with Chaquib Fadli after the fight, in which he confronts the security guard who pulled him out of the ring!
