Let's give props to these boxing experts

Kovalev goes down Saturday, and it will be embarrassing
And just think---many of you, months ago, were certain that a terrified Hopkins would pull out of this fight by now, so frightened was he at the thought of facing the dreaded Russian Krusher.
After Saturday night, it will be Kovalev who'll wish that Hopkins had actually taken your advice. After the beating Hopkins puts on him, Kovey, like the over-hyped Pavlik, will never be the same.

Letting Hopkins stay on the outside would be equally bad as Kovalev would then have to be forced to close the distance on taller and longer Hopkins giving Hopkins too much time to think. Kovalev isn't fast of feet.

A predator against C fighters. Hopkins might be old as heck, but his boxing mind is still sharp and will see Kovalev coming a mile away.

Sergey's best chance to win is to ambush Hopkins within the first 4-5 rounds, after that Nard will have gauged Kova's timing, reach and reactions to his feints and traps then the schooling will begin. If Kova is going to get it done then he better do it early or it won't happen at all, look for a wide UD by BHop who'll make it look obvious after 4-5 rounds.

I think they fight exactly the same (Pavlik and Kovalev), there will be no need for fouls or dirty tricks because that isn't all that is in Hopkins' arsenal, it seems you are forgetting that BHop can actually box and if a slow and unskilled Darnell Boone can take Kovalev the distance then what can a more skillful, faster and smarter Hopkins with a better defense do to him?

We will soon see how so called skillful Kovalev is, sure he can punch, sure he has power but so did Trinidad and Tarver and neither of them did any damage when they connected.
I like Kovalev but I just don't see him brining anything to the table that BHop hasn't already seen but Hopkins have seen many fighters like Kovalev (none had his power though) but Sergey's skill level is nothing exceptional or new.

Oderintdummetuant wrote:Hopkins should win in an unimpressive fashion. I am tired of hearing how amazing Hopkins is at his age. He fights like a 60 year old. He is negative to the core. People with skill beat Hopkins and always have, not even great skills as Hopkins lost twice to Jermain Taylor

Calzaghe beat him on effort and almost made him quit. Dawson made him quit. Kovelev, as exciting as he is, is a basic, basic fighter. Hopkins has destroyed guys like this his whole career. My prediction is a completely eye glazing SD win by Hopkins. Power is useless if you can't land it. Kovelev isn't good at all. He is powerful, exciting, and explosive , but basic and crude. Hopkins will hold disengage and disrupt to a decision that we will all cheer will be over. Hopefully, Kovelev lands and knocks the disgraceful Hopkins cold, but I doubt it.

He has power, but his footwork and balance are atrocious, he's slow, he holds his hands way too loose and his head movement is mediocre making him an easy target, and it is easy to lull him to sleep, which is Hopkins' specialty. People talk about his work rate, but he is only busy when he hurts you, and I don't think he is a good enough boxer to be able to set Hopkins up for too many power shots. I see Hopkins keeping the pace slow and frustrating him with pot shots and movement, just as he always does, and then catching him with hard shots when Kovalev squares up and gets off balance, which he seems to do about 5-10 times each round.
