Derry Matthews
After last nights win, I had a look at his record. Just can't believe he's still only 31, it seems he's been around forever. Anyway, what a servant for British boxing that man has been, a right up and down career. He seems to fight for a different belt every fight.
Would love to see him win a euro, or get a victory vs burns/Mitchell before he calls it a day.

Re: Derry Matthews
He has certainly packed it all in, I too would like to see him get his "big shot" he has been a good servant to British boxing, most of us have our favourite Derry Matthews fight, good luckstevieb_8006 wrote:After last nights win, I had a look at his record. to him I hope he gets a last big couple of years and gets out of the game around then as he has had some hard fights and a career to be proud of.
Re: Derry Matthews
I watched something about Derry and his training etc a while ago. He came across as a really decent man and it is hard to conceive how hard he trained, it just didn't look like any sort of fun at all. Matthews is an excellent boxer, fighter, puncher and he is having a grand career - very eventful and full of interest.

Re: Derry Matthews
Remember when Scott Lawton stopped him thouight that was the end for him.
Look how he's come back from that period, had some bad loses too but always comes back
Gotta give him proper respect
Him and John Simpson are throw back fighters

Seems like he's doing great stuff for his Community as well with his Gym, fair prices and helping people get fit. I know someone who trained in there, said it's a great atmosphere and everyone gets treated well, no matter their fitness levels or ability. Top Man.

Crazy scorecards for that fight. Derry deducted 2 points, dropped in the first and Dave Parris had him 7 rounds up???handsofstone wrote:Mathews vs Simpson was a brutal fight,my mrs even liked that fight
Re: Derry Matthews
He is a really nice genuine guy, always stops and chats to whoever stops him in the street,i was runnin in the liverpool half marathon a few years ago and seen him caught up to him and started chattin to him,he spoke to me for a bit then said "right iv gotta get goin" then at the end when i eventually finished i eventually finished he came upto me and spoke for a good 15-20 mins. He then invited me down to the birkenhead venture were he was training kids for free. Then id seen him in a few white collar shows and he stopped and spoke to me then,to him its no big deal but to a boxing fan like myself i was chuffed to bits. Great guy not like some boxers who are up their own hoop.

Interview I did with Derry for a Celtic blogsite. He doesn't speak to me now cause I pulled him up about being a dick after Burns lost to Zlaticanin.
Life goes on though, thanks for reading
