Kovalev boxed well, he used good tracking footwork and made the ring very small for Bernard; he used variety in his punches, didn't load up or telegraph and used his jab well. Hopkins is a master at watching an opponent fall into a rhythm and then exploiting it, he didn't really manage to do that on Saturday. Hopkins's age is an obvious factor and he has turned it into an advantage re the experience he has accumulated and the mastery of relaxation between rounds and between spells of action. I don't think Adonis would beat him every minute of a 12 round bout. Kovalev looks pretty good to me and he seems to have the gumption to continue to improve; he'll take some stopping.

I think the power of kovalev was really telling, Bhop took some really hard shots very well; either through technique or in some cases full blow toughness. One thing i did see is that Kovalev did look slightly buzzed to me off a few shots hopkins landed, i think he's going to get stopped by someone soon. I wonder if Froch would do a Calzaghe and jump up to LH just to go out as a 2 division world champion because i think that would be a really good fight.

@ Fat Git's last post to me---we'll have to agree to disagree on the points we've already debated several times.

When do you recall Kovalev being buzzed? Some people claimed that he was hurt in the 12th, but the replays clearly showed that he was knocked off-balance as their legs were tangled. Given that he almost immediately started beating the shitt out of Hopkins after that, I don't think he reacted like someone who was hurt.

Precisely how good his chin is remains a question though.

Kovalev buzzed? If you watch closely he was knocked off balance by Hopkins' leg.

Some of you people are crackers!

Good debating with as usual my man. I could be wrong, it is not I am not convinced but not at this moment in time. If he does what you think he has the potential to do, I will be the first to hold my hands up. :TU:

Hopkins must be respected, even in survival mode, to go 12 rounds with a strong young lion like Kovalev, but time to retire now, he's proved his point, time to exit stage right.

His balance is a little dodgy at times actually. It's not really poor but sometimes he seems to cross his legs over whilst throwing and nearly trip over himself. I've noticed it a few times. Again it's not something he does all the time though so it's not a huge concern.

Kovolev was absolutely outstanding. He dominated from first to last and showed he has so much more than power punching.

Finally, a Hopkins fight I enjoyed watching :box:

I believe it was the 7th i havent seen many replays but im sure kovalevs legs stiffened for a second, i was watching it live at stupid o'clock in the morning so my recollection may be skewed.
