Maybe, but how many of us have spoken to a casual fan who are going to buy it? Or even know it's happening? I really don't know where all these casual fans are coming from, because I haven't come across any.righthook wrote:black panther wrote:37 buyers!![]()
I sincerly hope those are the only people who buy it
2 things worth noting mate
1. This is a boxing forum and most people on here are hard core boxing fans and know that this show isn't really worth the Ppv due to the mainly one sided fights. The audience that eddie/Ppv is going for is the casual fans who haven't been watching it long and sees this as an amazing card packed with big names.
2. Allot of people on here will say they are not watching it to keep face but come fight night will probably end up getting it, not everyone of course but u can bet your life some will

This 100% - I just can't see the casuals even remotely bothered about paying 17 quid for this, even with AJ, groves and degale on it!
Righthook - I believe you said you live in the Liverpool area and I guess there are many casuals there that are talking about it because of the Bellew connection, but honestly outside of Liverpool and Wales maybe, Its just not that appealing to people who are casually interested in boxing...well, not for 17 quid anyway.
Put it this way, If I was a casual and this was on telly I'd take a look for sure but I doubt I would pay 17 quid for it, you disagree?
Re: Will You Be Buying The Cleverly vs Bellew II PPV?
Apologies if this has been mentioned here already as I have not read every single post.
One large point seems to be missed by Hearn who thinks he has a finger on the pulse and knows dynamics and how it all works. He often bangs on about casuals and hardcore fans and says that it is only the hardcore that are fcked off and that we do not number enough to be overly concerned with basically and that is about the casuals as they will make up the majority of the buys. Which is a fair point until you scratch below the surface.
Boxing is marginalised and shrinking. The casuals are drawn in to a large extent by us hard core fans. We talk about boxing, we gee it up, we hear a conversations about the rare boxing stories that has broken out to the mainstream and drop in some facts or extra juice and things that they do not know. We feed the pub conversations and help fire up the casuals.
A lot of guys in my area maintain a slight interest in boxing but I stoke it up on social media or face to face and I am sure that helps. One hardcare can draw in a few casuals. So for each hard core he is pissing off could cost him 5+ casuals.

My brother is a casual - he was interested in CF v GG 2 and watched it at mine
He will watch boxing if its on but won't plan to stay in and watch it
He thinks the latest PPV is an absolute disgrace

Re: Will You Be Buying The Cleverly vs Bellew II PPV?
I don't know many people that are that interested in boxing outside of people I talk to on the forums, so my opinion probably wouldn't matter that much to that many. In that, nobody would decide to watch boxing just based on what I recommend.
However, I do occasionally get asked when people are interested. A few people in my local were discussing whether to watch the George Groves fight at Wembley Arena the other month. Some people asked my opinion on him vs Froch, as well.
So, in that respect, you're right. If I was in the pub, and the topic of Clev and Bellew came up, I'd probably say I didn't think it was worth buying. Whether or not that would stop the pub from buying it or not is not really the point. To sell a PPV you need to make the casuals interested. BUT if in doing that, you're pissing off a different set of fans who will become vocal about it, you're creating a problem for yourself. You'll have to work that bit harder to counteract the criticism.

To be honest then mate I don't think your brother is a casual he sounds like the type of person who watches about 1 show every few years,
The casual fan who doesn't know all the inns and outs of boxing would think that a pact card with big names and a grudge match would be pretty good,
It's sounds like your chatting utter bubbles mate coz if you asked a hard core fan like myself or any other person on this site they would say it's a decent main event and there are 1 or two good math ups but it's not worth the Ppv fee,
A casual fan would not turn round and say it was a disgrace. Only a clueless person would say that or a a hard core fan who knows what Ppv is all about. This show has big names on and plenty of them that's what the casuals like, big names k.o.ing people in 2 rounds
Sounds to me like its u who is talking or your brother knows nothing about the sport but just wanted to try pretend he is into it

PAY 17 quid for it....I just don't think so. I'll be genuinely interested in seeing the figures after though.

Agreed crazy boy, I wouldn't want to pay Ppv for this card myself all tho I would as it's an excuse to have the lads over and a good night of boxing
To say a casual fan thinks this is a disgrace is weird it's exactly what a casual fan would want.

I just can't see the casual fan forking out 17 quid just to watch it. like I say though, I'll be interested to see the official figures on how many people/households actually buy it.
No way i'm buying it though.

Depends how you define casual then I suppose
He watched the last Groves fight (since his loss to Froch) because he was texting me round to round
He isn't the type of character to pretend he's in to anything

Totally agree with the hardcore fans feeling hard done by and how that will pass on through to the casuals and future generations.
It won't be forgotten and will be brought up for many years to come. Plus, how many people would watch the card on normal Sky Sports on the Saturday night in question with their families, kids, friends coming over, kids friends stopping the night(some seeing boxing for the first time) etc ?
That is publicity that is pretty much priceless.
Instead, the night will be shoved away in a dark corner on PPV with hardly anyone watching, when so many of the fighters on the card are looking to have big careers and headline future cards. Such a selfish move from those involved at the top of the sport at Sky.

Re: Will You Be Buying The Cleverly vs Bellew II PPV?
The main reason I won't be paying for it is the precedent it will set if it is a PPV success. It'll basically mean that any decent fight (domestic or otherwise) becomes a PPV event and that's not acceptable when people are already paying through the nose for Sky/Virgin subscriptions anyway. And I am a hardcore fan.
Re: Will You Be Buying The Cleverly vs Bellew II PPV?
Me too. I am interested in the bill and cannot say that I'm not but not to the degree that I would fork out PPV for it even though it is not exactly going to break my bank. I have never missed a PPV or if I have I can say I have got about 90% of them but I not doing it this time for the same reasons you putSteveDow wrote:The main reason I won't be paying for it is the precedent it will set if it is a PPV success. I hate PPV and very rarely pay for it and wont be paying for this.
Out of interest, how do the yanks get away with charging over $50 per PPV? thats some serious money

I am going to buy it as I am doing a 9-5 shift at work so will be able to get back in time for it.

I've seen in todays TV Supplements in the papers that they're advertising the Bellew v Cleverly bout for the vacant WBA & WBO Cruiserweight titles, I wonder who is feeding them the false advertising claims ?

Not like its not easy to find a decent free stream of it anyway
Thing that narks me off is Eddie going on about it being the only way for fights like this to be made. Utter nonsense
Especially when gob shite Bellew comes out and says he'd fight Clev for free
