Hopkins vs Golovkin rumors

Now I want Bernard to do another theatrical performance of not being able to continue a fight against Kova, so that Sergey doesn't damage him too badly. With Gennady being a smaller man, Hopkins vs Golovkin is more intriguing than today's fight.

Re: Hopkins vs Golovkin rumors
Usually, superstar senior fighters with more money in the bank they could hope to spend rarely go to war anymore.
Why risk your health/life when you have so much living for ?
I fully expect Hopkins to foul out if the Kovalev bout goes sore for him.
But at the same time, Hopkin's height and reach advantage worry me, even at nearly 50.

Re: Hopkins vs Golovkin rumors
I hope Bernard reconsiders facing GGG after the pasting he got tonight, bercause GGG won't be as merciful as Sergey.
He will take his head off.
He will take his head off.
Re: Hopkins vs Golovkin rumors
GGG will have size disadvantage, so if Hopkins fights as cautiously as he did with Kovalev, it will be even harder for Golovkin to land. It would certainly be intriguing to see how Gennady would try to handle the situation.
... and yes, if Bernard decided to engage, GGG would likely stop him.

Re: Hopkins vs Golovkin rumors
GGG can cut the ring much better than Kovalev, so he will tire out the old man, even if he can't land clean for a while.ikorolev wrote:GGG will have size disadvantage, so if Hopkins fights as cautiously as he did with Kovalev, it will be even harder for Golovkin to land.

And Kovalev worked only from the outside: i believe GGG has the skills to fight on the inside too.

Hopkins struggles against size and speed due to his advanced age. As experienced as he is - he can't physically keep up with speed.crow wrote:GGG can cut the ring much better than Kovalev, so he will tire out the old man, even if he can't land clean for a while.ikorolev wrote:GGG will have size disadvantage, so if Hopkins fights as cautiously as he did with Kovalev, it will be even harder for Golovkin to land.

While GGG is not as big as Kovalev and Chad Dawson - he is still a pretty big MW and is quick and strong so he can definitely cause problems for a 50 year old Hopkins.
I'd rather see him face Ward.
Re: Hopkins vs Golovkin rumors
If Sergey's best shots couldn't put BHop out or on Queer Street then I'm sure a smaller GGG won't be able to do it either, personally I don't think this is a fight Hopkins should take (not because it's 3G) but I think he shouldn't try to cut as much weight at his advanced age.
Re: Hopkins vs Golovkin rumors
It could happen at 170, and I believe Bernard was 171.5 before one of his recent fights, so it is not much weight to cut. However, I am not sure that GGG team is interested anymore after such one-sided loss to Kovalev and all those "mother time" talks. What will Golovkin prove by beating Hopkins now ?KBB wrote:If Sergey's best shots couldn't put BHop out or on Queer Street then I'm sure a smaller GGG won't be able to do it either, personally I don't think this is a fight Hopkins should take (not because it's 3G) but I think he shouldn't try to cut as much weight at his advanced age.

Re: Hopkins vs Golovkin rumors
The wise old man still has enough in the tank to school a midget like Golovkin.
He won't even move up to 168 to challenge a Ward, so what are the chances of Golovkin wanting any part of Hopkins, even if B-Hop is a small 175-pounder?
And would Abel Sanchez even be interested in taking on the legendary Hopkins?
Remember, even he ranks Golovkin behind Hopkins among the all-time middleweights. Why would he want to risk him against a 168 or 175 pound B-Hop?

As good as Golovkin is and has shown up to now- he's not shown himself to be a good insight fighter yet so I dont know where you've got that from.crow wrote:GGG can cut the ring much better than Kovalev, so he will tire out the old man, even if he can't land clean for a while.ikorolev wrote:GGG will have size disadvantage, so if Hopkins fights as cautiously as he did with Kovalev, it will be even harder for Golovkin to land.

After Saturday night, it will be Kovalev who'll wish that Hopkins had actually taken your advice. After the beating Hopkins puts on him, Kovey, like the over-hyped Pavlik, will never be the same.
Re: Hopkins vs Golovkin rumors
agreed, GGG hasn't shown as much inside as I was hoping to see so far. It'll come though. The thing with Gennady is he works the jab really well, it's his most important weapon to me. Taylor beat Hopkins with an accurate jab and GGG has that. GGG-BHop will never happen though, nobody wants to see it.
Re: Hopkins vs Golovkin rumors
Why is that ? Kovalev had power and reach advantage over Hopkins allowing him to keep Bernard outside and running. Golovkin's power advantage would be smaller, and Bernard would have a reach advantage. Besides, fans want to see how Golovkin would look against a slick boxer and a mover.SFW wrote:agreed, GGG hasn't shown as much inside as I was hoping to see so far. It'll come though. Re: Hopkins vs Golovkin rumors
Yeah it's a fight i'd still be intrigued by because Golovkin is the naturally smaller man. Kovalev looked really big against Hokpkins and is a big hitter for that weight class. GGG is a big hitting 160 fighter so it would be intriguing for me atleast.ikorolev wrote:Why is that ? Re: Hopkins vs Golovkin rumors
B-Hop will, (if he fights GGG) meet the same fate or worse than he did vs Kovalev. If it happens, it should be no higher than say 164. B-Hop said he could make 160 just this year. Give him the 4lb handicap advantage.

Hell, I couldn't even find my own stuff. I'm honored that you keep it on file.
I could tell you what the John Birch Society used to warn about when I dabbled with them back in the 60s and 70s. They always alerted us about an upcoming Soviet invasion in the U.S.
I've always feared that their warnings would be realized, but I never thought it could happen in boxing. It's a shame what's happening.

Re: Hopkins vs Golovkin rumors
Coming down to middleweight would I think be a huge mistake - Hopkins walks around near, but above his fighting weight, and has piled on quite a lot of muscle through his training regime.
To get down to middleweight, without starving himself, he would need to take off the additional muscle mass he has acquired, dramtic weight gain and loss has been proven to cause serious health problems - I think he would need a good 4-5 months of preparation to safely get down to that weight, otherwise we could see exactly the same as happened to Roy Jones Jr when he moved back down to 175.

Re: Hopkins vs Golovkin rumors
I don't think that anybody is talking about that fight happening at 160. I would expect it to be somewhere between 168 and 175.
Re: Hopkins vs Golovkin rumors
In an interview B-Hop said pretty clearly he would fight someone in a division below where he is right now, and against a champion that is dominating his division. He is a small light heavy, so that could mean a 168 or 160 lber. Since he won't fight Ward, that only leaves GGG imo. It won't be above 168 because B-Hop only weighed in at 172 or 173? 5lbs is nothing to drop no matter how old you are.
I've never been a big fan of B-Hop, but do think he has more balls than 90% of the champs there are today. Quite a cut to most of the champs, but I think the shoe fits.

Lol, I was wondering when you would show up after Kovalev outclassed Hopkins. Still no credit to Sergey? Lol. Even Brut was able to admit he was wrong and Kovalev was way better than he expected.SenorPipino wrote:

What's the fornicating point? Bernard fought like a journeyman in survival mode on Saturday. He's a legend but he's a boring fighter right now.

Since fighters are so afraid of his power, you don't see them going inside.
Hopkins won't be able to tie him up there, he's too old. So he's going to get hurt often and hard.
Bernard won't hear the final bell vs Gennady.
