Tomasz Adamek

Post by Perseus »

With the BHop fight getting all the attention this weekend another vet seemingly coming to the end of the line went largely unnoticed.

Just thought Adamek deserves a little bit of a shout out for a successful and respectable career.
Light heavyweight title holder, cruiserweight champ, heavyweight title challenger and had a style that resulted in a lot of entertaining fights.
I hope he doesn't hang around to become target practice for young heavyweights.

His best work imo:
Steve Cunningham SD 12(first fight)- edged a better technical boxer in a great fight to win the IBF belt and become the top cruiser.
Paul Briggs MD 12- wins his first world title(wbc) in a great fight
Chris Arreola MD 12- in his opponents backyard, outweighed by 30+ lbs wins yet another great fight.
Johnathan Banks tko 8
O'Neill Bell tko 8

I watched this fight and immediately noticed that Adamek seemed lost fighting a southpaw. Then I tried to think of southpaws he's faced...he's only fought one remotely skilled left handed fighter...same guy who is the only southpaw he's faced in the last 10 years....same guy who gave him his first loss. Szpilka had better footwork than Adamek.

I think if Adamek was matched correctly, he'd do fine. He's never going to be a title contender again, but I think a fight against Wlodarczyk makes all the sense in the world.

A very respectable career, one in which I think he was at his best at CW.

really he has been a great boxer, before recently only the best could stop him (chad dawson and vitali klitschko) I would love to see him fight for the European belt or a version of the European title before he retired so he gets the respect of having been one of the best and retiring as a champion.
