Primo Carnera started out as a circus strongman. Middleweight contender of the 40s & 50s Dave Sands started out fighting in the tents at country shows.

Kind of disagree on Augustus. If anything he failed to meet expectations people had for him. He had talent but every time he fought someone good he lost badly.

Heavyweight Mike Weaver...went from 6-6 through his first 12 fights, all the way up to 22-9 after knocking out John Tate for the WBA title.
Big puncher, I enjoy watching his fights from the 80's.

I know but after a few years he got a cult following that actually seemed to vastly overrate him.

Carlos Baldomir was a pretty quality club fighter / stepping stone before he decided to stop losing in 1999.

I'd never heard of Orlando Salido until he he first KO'd Juan Manuel Lopez,Juanma was unbeaten KO artist and Salido's record looked poor at that time(to me) so i dont know how he was viewed as a fighter going into the fight

Salido obviously went on to win a few more title fights so im sure theres been some improvement

Rocky Balboa, was a classic example of just one lucky break and making it to the big time, just with heart and a bit of talent. Club fighter to prizefight one of the best!
