Top fighter, great to watch. Great effort in the garden against rios, and what a crowd that night.

The fight with an over-sized Rios was epic.....John still absolutely going for it and earning that still comparatively rare thing of complete respect for a British fighter from the US media and fans.

Rios got himself a proper fight that night, one I'll doubt he will ever forget, and to a certain extent John applied the first serious physical and mental dents to Rios who'd been pretty much be smashing his way to the top up until that point. There's a case for saying that John put in the spadework that Alvarado would benefit from.

I hope John has a peaceful and happy retirement.

In a time where several brits have traveled to the usa took a one sided beating and left with less credit than they came with (Barker, Purdy, Rose), Murray was the exception (Along with maybe Rees), he gave rios an absolute war, he pushed him too the limit. Unfortunately Rios was world class and had a little bit too much for murray but he gained alot of respect from the US media. He left absolutely everything in the ring that night, and was never quite the same in his comeback. IMO if the same murray turned up the night he fought crolla it would have been a different outcome.

True but he actually put up a good fight and got plenty for credit from the US media, in particular max kellerman was very complementary. Broner was at 135 absolutely unstoppable, but rees came to win, and actually give ita good go, won the first 2 rounds then broner turned it on.
