Here is a link to a recording of the live radio transmission of the first Ingemar Johansson vs Floyd Patterson bout in June.26. 1959.
Radio Sweden had refused to air the fight on their radio station(which was state run)because they deemed Boxing
a 'cruel sport" and did not broadcast boxing events at all.
So someone from Sweden who worked in the good ole USA had purchased some radio time on Radio Luxembourg
(which was a commercial station)and the fight was able to have been heard in Sweden around 3 A.M.
( be sure to scroll down page and click on the little icon on the small photograph of Floyd Patterson on the canvas to hear it).

man,Hearing those Swedes celebrate there,
I dont think Ive heard so much excitment in a room since
July.20.1969
when Neil Armstrong radioed back to mission control
"Houston,
Tranquillity Base here,
The Eagle has landed".

Was that link to the original 'live" Luxembourg radio broadcast ever re-posted ?
Re: "Ingo Night"/June.27.1959/Radio Luxembourg(Live in Swedish!)
I find myself believing the real hero of the johansson story was his 'advisor ' Edwin Ahlqvist.
According to my sources he didn't take a penny from Ingemar .
He organised and paid up front for Ingemar's fights and only took his costs from his purse.
Ahlqvist believed it was reward enough that the circulation of his magazines REKORD MAGASINET and ALL SPORTincreased significantly during his career.
Ahlqvist was simply a huge boxing fan.

Off topic, but my bookseller friend just recently found a copy of Ingos biography (in Swedish) signed by both Johansson and Patterson... I think I'll go and rescue that one to a better home this week...

Oddly enough in a lot of those scandinavian countries boxing is banned. I remember when Spinks defended the title against Steffen Tangstad and in the build-up they mentioned he had to train elsewhere because boxing was illegal in Norway.

some boxing trivia for ya's.
Michael Spinks was originally scheduled to fight Randall "Tex" Cobb that evening.
