Tyson vs Frazier Prime for Prime
Fight advantages-Hand Speed-Tyson, Boxing Ability-Tyson, KO Power-Tyson, Size-Tyson, Defense-Frazier, Endurance-Frazier, Adaptability-No Advantage, Chin-Frazier Foot Speed-No Advantage, Strength-Tyson, Jab-Tyson, Cuts-No Advantage, Reach- Frazier(73” to 71”), Body Attack-Frazier
Tyson would be in a world of trouble here. Mike wouldn't be facing an intimidated opponent in Smoke, and he couldn't bank on pre FOTC Frazier getting off to a slow start. Jimmy Ellis did well for two and a half rounds by staying the hell away from Joe, hardly Tyson's style.
If Mike did manage to hurt Joe, Smoke wouldn't stop coming, wouldn't stop getting up if Tyson did manage to floor him for an instant. For every right uppercut Mike attempted, Joe would produce three economically devastating hooks to Mike's head and body. Tyson's overhand right would simply go sailing over Joe's bobbing head. No matter how good Mike's head movement was, that wouldn't prevent Joe from nailing him downstairs. Joe would also be a lot more relaxed than Mike. It helped Tyson that Spinks was tense. Joe wouldn't be wrapped so tight.
Quarry started fast against Joe, in their title fight following the Zyglewicz massacre, pouring in nearly a hundred punches in that opening round, and Jerry could hit. Over 50 of Jerry's hooks went downstairs. But Joe returned fire, with over 60 of his own shots in that opening frame. After just two rounds, Jerry was already tiring. With Ziggy, Joe would take a little step back, and let fly with that hook.
Tyson didn't have the awesome shoving strength of a Foreman, and we're not talking about a post FOTC Frazier here. Frazier could very definitely get out of the opening rounds against Mike, then watch out! Unlike Joe, once Tyson went down, he wouldn't be able to beat the count.
Frazier KO 13 Tyson
Shame though as I would've wanted Tyson to win

Oh no Giancarlo, GASP! scoffs at MY scenario? Should I delete my thread?BoxBuzz wrote:Let it be known far and wide:

It may well be the only sane option at this point.
A scoff is nothing to trifle with.

Buzz, every time you post now, I can't help but picture that snapshot you added of yourself in the Off Topic forum.BoxBuzz wrote:It may well be the only sane option at this point.

What's that saying? A picture speaks a thousand words?

Giancarlo, just keep the women you care for a safe distance from me, and you'll have nothing to worry about.
Don't let my good looks intimidate you....I'm still the same ol' lovable Buzz.

Do you ever see Bazza around?
Re: Tyson vs Frazier Prime for Prime
He prefers the name barry as I recall. To refer to him as bazza is a sign of disrespect. Don't be a hater Ginny.
Have you read his work? You should be taking notes like the rest of us, and dispense with the clever retorts.

By the way and returning to the point of this well thought out thread, Frazier trumps Tyson. (In most cases)
If I didn't know better, Gian was doubtful of your "hopes" that Tyson would have won your hypothetical fight.
(A word to the wise)....always theorize YOUR guy as the winner. To do otherwise is counter productive.

I take your advice.
Frazier destroys Tyson.
But I cover my eyes the first two rounds.

Yes, that was the bit I found amusing.BoxBuzz wrote:

Abdel's posts so far have all shown him fawning over Joe and excusing every loss as being due solely to Frazier being post prime.
Yet as a postscript on this one he suggests we should treat his comments as being purely subjective as the man he really loves is Mike Tyson.
Rather disingenuous I thought.

You mean the shite he posted at CBZ? It looked to have been written by someone without even a basic knowledge of the fight game and little command of the english language.
By the way, is he still mentoring you in your quest to be a boxing historian Buzz?

Joe Frazier is too tough for Mike Tyson, great fight whilst it last Joe wins TKO 9
Re: Tyson vs Frazier Prime for Prime
Tyson for me. In his ferocious peak. Unbeatable. I have never seen such a complete fighting machine. Frazier too predictable.

Re: Tyson vs Frazier Prime for Prime
It's not fawning, it's being realistic. On second thought i admit it. Frazier was prime in 1973 despite all his issues at the time and his excessive fat. I also admit Frazier was somehow prime in 1976 at a lean 224 pounds. Come to think of it, I still don't think Frazier reached his prime.Giancarlo wrote:Yes, that was the bit I found amusing.BoxBuzz wrote:

Re: Tyson vs Frazier Prime for Prime
In my opinion Tyson would KO Frazier within 4 rounds.
I'm just not sure anyone was as ferocious as Tyson in his prime (whenever that was, 87' I suppose)...and wow he was fast.
I've seen the first Frazier - Foreman fight so many times...and I just don't see how Frazier could survive an early Tyson onslaught.
So I would go with Tyson TKO.3 Frazier.

These are all of course the very things that make barry bazza and vice versa. So stop with the demeaning.
I of course learned most of what I know about this great sport from you. Is there a more knowledgeable source?
Re: Tyson vs Frazier Prime for Prime
Someone said that there has never been a more complete and ferocious fighter than Mike Tyson.
I would challenge the "complete" aspect and agree with ferocious. He certainly faced quite a few bowling pins on his way up. I then think he was hyped so well, that some very talented fighters were never able to show there best work, because of their reaction to the hype. Spinks in particular. I'm not trying to take anything away from Tyson, and if a man can intimidate you, and have you nearly defeated before you go to work, then that is still real, and should not be taken away from Tyson. But a good fundamental fighter...(Buster Douglas) who looked the other way when the hype bus went buy, genuinely "managed" him. And Holyfield, bullied him.
He fought some fights that made him look "pretty good" such as Ruddock and BoneCrusher. So put the best Frazier in on those nights, and you really think that Joe Frazier would have a tougher night than those two guys? I could see him being too much for Mike on those two nights. On the nights he went the distance with Tillis or Tucker I'm thinkin' I like Joe's chances then as well. I know the styles were different, but the main reason they simply survived is that they (like Joe) were cool under pressure. Joe has that, and the offensive arsenal to make it a different sort of night for Mike.
Also, he would be by far the stronger psyche in the ring. And that is far to underestimated in this discussion forum.

I suppose I have put a lot of effort into helping you gain a rudimentary understanding of the noble art.BoxBuzz wrote:I of course learned most of what I know about this great sport from you. Is there a more knowledgeable source?
Of course, it's not possible to make a silk purse out of a pig's ear, but I think you are making some steady progress, especially given your background.
However, I can't take all the credit for your fistic education Buzz.
What about granberry and the O.J. story that you swallowed hook, line and sinker?
Or Il Duce's flights of fantasy that you always seemed to feel may well have happened just as he said.
They too should be given due credit for making you the boxing man about town that we see before us today.

Ladies and gentleman. Near Peak 2014 (although still somewhat green) Frazier vs Wlad. Although Frazier still gives Wlad all kinds of mighty hell, I see Wlad winning a tough decision over Frazier's corpse in 2014.yancey wrote:

Dead but still game, Frazier rallies back in the closing rounds but is stretchered out at the end.

Joe all the way. Frazier was a tough man, where as i saw Tyson scream like a girl when a cold swell was pressed on his eye. Tyson was a bully, and joe just wouldn't stand for that.
Also, with the exception of a career best punch on Botha, he never came from behind to beat anyone, the complete definition of a front runner. Joe would have made him a 'game quitter'.
I say that as THE BIGGEST Tyson fan ever.
