Or I should say he looked retarded.... he was so stiff-legged, and his hands out like that... just looked incredibly foolish. I dont know how one could think that kind of stance or position would of served you well in a fight.

I don't think that equates to him fighting like a moron and I disagree that he hung out on the back foot; it seemed to me like for most of the bout they were posturing and and alternating between who maneuvered forward and who leaned back, and neither retreated for sustained periods.

On the positive side I thought he did a better job in close than any of Wlad's recent opponents have, as he kept his hands busy to the head and body when the latter would try to tie him up. I also thought he picked his spots fairly well and didn't simply fall into a shell when he was hit, and as a result he connected with some good shots. Ultimately he didn't have the firepower to hang with Wlad, but I don't think he fought an unintelligent fight.

Yeah his chin was high. He seemed disdainful of Wlad, as a confidence trick. But ultimately he paid.

What was Pulev supposed to do? Outbox Wlad with his inferior speed/athleticism? His only shot was a 1-2 KO, and he bothered Wlad with a few of them - something hardly anyone has the balls to even try, much less actually do. Pulev went out on his shield - better than running for 12 and not trying.

I commend the man for trying, yes... but no one is ever going to win fights with a style like that... that was being overly mechnical and amateurish...

He did more in those rounds than a number of fighters have for years.

Pulev landed a nice right in the first round and in the 5th. Both times he just irritated Wlad who then retaliated by knocking Pulev down.

I agree.

He could've gone into his shell and focused on survival like many opponents who taste Wlad's power, but he didn't.

Pulev is a decent fighter but just not on Klitschko's level. Join the crowd Pulev.

I don't see it.... what I seen was a fighter turning into a human octopus... it was Pulev for the most part forcing the mauling and clinching, like he had tentacles. That isnt being effective, thats being sloppy.

At best Pulev came to fight.

Pulev actually threw some hard shots in Wlads direction And landed a few. That's really not saying much since Pulev had no answer for Wlads right hand left hook combo. But overall it was a good Wlad Klitschko performance.

You're right. Pulev should've broke out his Chris Byrd impression and get beat up from the outside more slowly and comprehensively.

No he should of stuck to fighting like Kubrat Pulev... the same Pulev who fought Thompson and others, intelligently boxing. Instead... he showed up looking like a cross-between the Tinman and an Octopus. When he wasnt getting his head knocked off his shoulders, he was mauling/clinching like he had tentacles instead of arms.

And he would still have got beat up. You don't beat Wladimir Klitschko by trying to stand on the outside and box him, he's far too good for that, chuck in height and reach advantages and Pulev stood no chance of winning the fight like that. He might have lasted longer, but at least he tried to fight in a way that gave him a chance of winning.

So you'd rather Pulev lose 120-107(at best) than to be riskier, hurt Wlad but get KO'd in the process?

Exactly. And the fight would've sucked. At least this was entertaining.

I don't see it that way. The only time Vladimir ever lost to styles like that was when he was still developing as a fighter, and was nowhere near the fighter he is now. I've seen more people try in vain to maul/brawl with him, than to try and out box him. And they all have failed in the passed ten years. At least with the text book boxers, they last longer. And Pulev, in my eyes anyways, was the best of the text book types--- had he stayed in that style, he would of certainly protected himself better, and he could of found opprotunities (maybe) down the stretch.

Tonight, he threw away all his talents and gifts to the side. It is comparable to when Byrd rematched him, and instead of boxing--- he tried to brawl (as laughable as that is). You dont change your style for one fight. You stick to what has worked for you.

I definitely agree about Pulev mauling and clinching, and he also repeatedly hit Wlad on the back of the head while clinching. I really do think he was trying to either KO Wlad or (perhaps) get Wlad angry enough to lose by DQ somehow.
However, I disagree about Pulev holding with tentacles, by which I mean Pulev wasn't in "survival mode" He was going for a KO more times than not in this fight.
And he did connect a few times, but Wlad didn't seem to be hurt much at all.

I understand what you're saying though.

Pulev hit Wlad with a couple punches on the outside and a bunch of rabbit punches in the clinches. He tried to win and it made Wlad look for the KO. An interesting fight.

Wlad is a level above everybody else in the HW division, but it was him who was initiating clinching. Even after two KDs in round one, he was grabbing Pulev instead of throwing everything and finishing him.
