Who has dropped Carl Thompson????

Just a follow on from the Haye thread.... Was just thinking who had actually managed to drop The Cat... my memory isnt too good

Nelson didnt drop him did he, CAT was just staggering all over the place at the stoppage...

Rothmann did drop him I recall, or did the ropes hold him up??

Sellers had him down a few times (but he is P4P one of the biggest punchers around)

Franco Yanmana had him down too i believe

What happened against Yawe Davies Ralf Rocchigiano (didnt his shoulder go) and Crawford Ashley???

Actually just checking on boxrec.... check out this nice piece of scoring... someone didnt wanna upset his hosts...

Eubank dropped him in fight 1, staggered him many times but got a count also. Should have won the decision IMO.

Shoulder went vs Rochigiani in the first fight.

Yes, the rematch - the one score card was horrible - I didn't see Carl lose a round.

Thompson did lose his footing against Eubank which led to him ending up on the floor, it was only because of his larking about seconds previously that led to everyone thinking at the time that he'd been knocked down hurt.

ashley stopped him with a hard jab to the eye and thompson gave up, in round 4. thompson dropped ashley very early, i think ashley also dropped him at some point.

he deserved a 2nd chance, simple as.

yeah sure nelson largely dominated it. thompson was still very harshly stopped and they should have got it on again.

Thompson whilst ragged was fine..... Any referee should understand fighters styles and know that Thompson had an unusual style

Thompson was the champion had come through wars with other fighters and won and yet got stopped so cheaply and never got a rematch....

That was pure SHITE and summed up the Warren Sky partnership

given Thompson's ability to recover, yes he could've been allowed to continue. but nothing he did that night showed me CT could win more than a couple of rounds vs Nelson. I think CT lost to Ezra Sellers not too long after, which erased any chance of a rematch.

Sure Thompson was highlz unlikely to win..however he was notorious better second half fighter and Nelson still wasnt completely over his bottle jobs...

More to the point however, Thompson had travelled to Germany to win the title in his opponents back yard... fought two wars with Eubank .... then wasnt allowed to go out on his shield like any great boxer should

It was counted, it was from a punch. Yes, some of it was acting/larking about - but not all of it. You cannot act glass eyed. Thompson, like Hamed, had amazing powers of recovery - ask Haye, Rothman, Sellers, Nelson and Eubank - but he was hurt by all of them.

I thought at first that the Nelson stoppage was correct, but watching the fight in full again and just seeing how Thompson changed from glass eyed drunk to perfectly fine - then no it was premature and I don't even think Nelson would have stopped him eventually. The guys powers of recovery is freak like, but he does get hurt.

Another fighter with amazing powers of recovery was Hagler. A few guys during his early title reign (including Minter) hurt him, but never did I think he's getting KO'd - cause he would recover almost instantly.
