Who should Wladimir Klitschko fight next?

Post by Freedom2013 »

It won't be the winner of Stiverne-Wilder, because they won't be fighting for awhile.

He doesn't have to fight his WBO mandatory (the winner of Chisora-Fury) for 18 months from the Leapai fight (because Leapai was a WBO mandatory).

Bryant Jennings may want to fight Wladimir, have a go at 3 world titles instead of one. Wladimir wants to fight in the USA in 2015, and Jennings would be a good top ten HW opponent. .

Who do you think he should fight next?

I've not seen him fight but should Glazkov be in the mix?

Wilder interests me the most... though he'd have to beat Stiverne first.

I wouldn't be surprised if it is jennings which will be a ridiculously easy fight for wlad.

Even though he got busted for roids, I would like to see him fight Luis Ortiz.

The HW division sorely needs some type of a tournament to force these guys to actually fight quality opponents prior to being fed to Wlad. Pulev may have been rated highly, but his best win was over an ancient contender who no one regarded as much more than a club fighter before he exposed one of the UK towers of mediocrity.

At the very least the Stiverne-Wilder winner should fight the Fury-Chisora winner in order to get someone who has an actual claim as a world class contender. Wlad can bump off another pretneder holding out for a good payday like Glazkov or Browne while he waits. I'd like to see Jennings somewhere in the mix as well, but I want to see heim fight a few top guys to get more experience before he gets to the top level. And eventually we can see Joshua develop and beat a few top guys as well. However, no rush for him.

I think what will happen next will be the Briggs contest...

Why? Because Briggs has did a remarkable campaign that has garnered alot of interest, and he even picked up a bogus belt, and keeps winning matches against tomato cans, etc. It is a "volunteer" defense, even if it does nothing for Vladimir's legacy or credability. It's a pure entertainment fight, and Briggs will get anywhere from $250,000 to a $1,000,000 for fighting Klitschko in Germany, and people get to see Klitschko (again).

This also gives enough time for the Chisora/Fury winner to get one more tune up, or to get ready for their WBO show down with Klitschko and for promoters to argue whether a fight in Britain (possibly Wembley) would be worth more money for both parties or not, etc. and it also gives King and Stiverne more time to either make the Wilder fight happen, or to make a defense against a lesser opponent, etc.

Personally... I want to see Klitschko fight the Chisora/Fury winner next... but I believe that Briggs will more than likely be the next man up, or someone along those lines. Seems to be a pattern with Klitschko, that he will do a few mandatories by the IBF/WBO, etc. and then throw one "easy" fight in there.

I would like him to fight jennings next (in february) and then the winner of wilder/stiverne in june or so.

waiting for wilder/stiverne would be bad because that fight will be not before january so wlad would be inactive at least till may.

My ideal next three would be Jennings/Fury-Chisora winner, Fury-Chisora winner/Jennings, Wilder-Stiverne winner.

My absolute ideal would be for him to fight the winner of Fury - Chisora next. By late 2015, hopefully one of the other top 10 contenders will fight one of the other top 10 contenders and distinguish himself as the challenger after next.

The sad thing is that Povetkin really deserves to be considered the second best heavyweight, even though a second shot at Wlad is absolutely out of the question, and just imagine if Povetkin were to beat someone near the front of the line and knock him out of the Klitschko sweepstakes. That would be a pretty bad scenario for the division.

Fury fight is the most compelling but he will be mandatory anyway so its better if Klitschko focuses on WBC path at this stage. So Jennings fight seems most logical as it will put him as a mandatory for WBC title.

In the ideal world Klitschko would fight for the WBC belt right away. Then defends all titles against likes of Fury, Jennings, Wilder and so on.

I can see him fighting all of Stiverne, Wilder, Chisora and Fury in his next 6 or 7 fights.

fergusg wrote:From a financial perspective, Wladimir Klitschko would earn far more fighting the winner of the Chisora-Fury fight than anyone else named on the poll.

That being said, in terms of HBO’s American audience, they could demand that “Dr Steelhammer” faces a US fighter, like Bryant Jennings.

The only way that Wladimir fights the Wilder-Stiverne winner, is if Bermane emerges victorious. Otherwise Klitschko would have to wait until his contract with HBO expires (in two fights time).

Therefore, Wladimir Klitschko’s next two opponents (in no particular order), are likely to be Bryant Jennings or the winner of the Chisora-Fury rematch.
why couldn't wlad fight wilder on HBO?

Jennings would be okay, then the winner of Fury-Chisora.

He should fight three times in 2015, but he probably will fight just twice again.

Wlad next opponents will be

Jennings or the winner of Chisora/Fury
Outside chance he fights Marco Huck in 2015
He can fight stiverne if he wins, but will not fight wilder until 2016 if wilder wins

Glazkov likely have an eliminators involving Cunningham, Browne and Charles Martin

In this moment Fury is the most credible opponent to me.

Tyson Fury seem to be the most creditable with his youth, size, power and puch variety. Plus he has a huge heart so he would give plenty for Wladimir K to think about.

As it stands the 2 best are Pulev and Povetkin and he's beaten them both.

I'd have liked to see him fight the holder of the WBC, combine all 4 titles then retire.
But he wants to aim for records now, so I'm not too fussed who he faces, he beat the best, might as well hype up the media circus that is Briggs then take him out in 2 rounds, that could be made fairly quick and help him break into the US market.

Then extinguish the minimal (self made) hype that surrounds wilder and fury, provided Stivern/Chisora don't beat him too it.

Furys size and wilders right hand probably pose the only questions worth asking any more for wlad. He'll answer them both in a fairly straight forward manner and we can have this discussion again in a year or so time

Fury next,,,

Fury will Ko Chisora and the only thing stopping the fight happening is Fury wanting too much cash

If he got a million he would be doing well

he would of got 5 million for the haye fight so I feel sorry for him in that respect

The winner of Fury vs Chisora... Surely is has to be Tyson Fury. I do think that he would be next in line.

Here's a real stunner....unless you've been paying attention.
Klitschko now says he wants old man Shannon Briggs as his next opponent!

How could anyone have seen this coming?

A German media poll astoundingly reveals that almost 3 out of 4 (72%) fans want the 42-year-old Briggs to be the champ's next opponent.
Apparently the Germans have somehow bought into those inane WWE-style video vignettes that show Briggs supposedly stalking and torturing Klitschko around the globe and creating a humorous ruckus.
Since Briggs has climbed to #7 in the WBA ratings by devouring a steady diet of stiffs, the bout could get the green light.
"I want what the fans want," Klitschko warns. "Briggs."

Like I asked earlier--did anyone see this coming?????

He should fight two at once, might be competitive. How about Stiverne AND Wilder?

WBA belt is the next defense in line for Klitschko, so of Briggs wants a shot at Wlad, he needs to beat a Jennings, Browne, Chagaev. And obviously he would never beat those guys. He wouldn't even beat Fres Oquendo.

Klitschko definitely should fight Fury if Fury beats Chisora. He will probably destroy him, but it will be a big fight in England, plus Tyson is the type of character that hypes fights up pretty well.
