I mean scared in the sense of the mental anguish of near certain defeat. Many fighters today cannot handle the notion of losing. if he wasn't scared the fight would have obviously occurred.

Don't get shook up, HoagyLt. What you're saying is exactly what I meant. Stiverne's no Patterson because Floyd was a terrific fighter while Stiverne is rather ordinary. He's only a champion because A) the title was vacated by Vitali (who would have poleaxed him) and B) the heavyweight division stinks.

BTW, hasn't the Stiverne-Wilder showdown been pretty much finalized for Jan. 17 in Las Vegas?
I know that's not exactly the same as being signed, sealed and delivered, but it's about as close as you can get in boxing.

I don't agree with that last part of your statement, fights don't get made by fighters.....it's the Promoter's job and so far neither side has presented a contract for the other to sign.

No contractural negotiations have taken place between the two parties so there is no way we can say either man is ducking the other, if a negotiation had taken place like in the case of Floyd vs Manny and one fighter refused to sign the contract for whatever reason then that can be considered ducking.

Otherwise, neither fighter is afraid of the other regardless of who is undefeated.

Stiverne was the one who came up with the phony hurt hand excuse. At least by some accounts, he gained a lot of weight and certainly wasn't looking to fight anyone. Stiverne fights seldom and when he does, he usually doesn't do it very well. He was behind on points against Austin and I think had a recent draw or close fight with a .500 fighter. If he beats Wilder, then wilder is really bad.

Helenius KO'd a soccer ball in one punch a few months ago. I think Wilder should have to go through him before he meets-up with Stiverne, who I assume is also the champion of fighting inanimate objects, in addition to being WBC champion.
