How many rounds did Clev win?

Post by WelshJack »

Being in the arena I only gave him a generous 2, people near me didn't give him a single round.

6 on my card, preferred Cleverly landing jabs to Bellew missing with right hands.

I will have to watch it back on the tv, you always get different scores in the arena to at home.

I doubt you'll find many cards like mine, a lot will have preferred Bellew because he tried to make a bit of a fight of it, but I gave him no credit for throwing and missing, whereas others may have seen it as him outworking Cleverly.

I gave him 1 and a share of another, defensively i actually thought Cleverly done well, its just that if your gonna fight with one hand, and 1 punch(jab) then youve gotta be both accurate and forceful with it,if he used it the way he did in the opening round then i would have gave him plenty more as Bellew's timing and accuracy was way off but that prodding, range finder-type jab is useless unless your following it up with the back hand

Cleverly is without doubt a better boxer than Bellew IMO but somehow his injury, heart, hunger, stamina or whatever it may be he allowed Tony to take that fight off him without resistence, something definitely not right with Cleverly,if it was an injury then that might be repairable but if its something else he may be finished

I had Bellew storming it without landing much of note...just sums up last night boxing as a whole both home and abroad

I had him winning 5, Bellew 5, 2 impossible to split.

I was there and had TB winning by 3 rounds; on watching it back I had TB winning by 2 rounds. I think NC needs to go back to LHW and go back to Adam Booth and give it a real last shot at that weight. He lost to Kovalev who IMHO is the best LHW out there at the minute; no shame in that loss at all. Whatever he decides to do I wish him all the best because as a person he is one of the nicest person you could wish to meet.

I watched a stream from rnd 5 onwards and I didn't think he won a round clearly from what I saw. He landed a few jabs but wasn't controlling the fight with the jab. I could see a case for him in 5-7 but no clear rounds. Bellew just did more, more often and looked aggressive.

I've not watched it yet righthook, was it a good bout? Many are saying not, I know you are partisan toward Bellew; was he an effective boxer last night, do you think he'll continue to improve and will he be a real contender at cruiser?

It was dull as fornicate for 8 rounds, improved slightly when Clev's legs went and he spent most of the last 4 rounds on the ropes. Bellew was fighting a one handed man, who threw little other than a flicked jab, but he was cautious and threw a lot of single shots, if he'd thrown in combinations and gone for accuracy rather than power, he'd have walked the fight unless Cleverly found another level, which looked unlikely. With the way Nathan was fighting, it should have been a simple job, but Tony found a way to make it difficult. The likes of Huck and Lebedev would smash Bellew into pieces, lacks the defence and boxing skills to have a chance against them.

:TU: thanks expe; after all the talk these last weeks I feared a real war of attrition. What were the boxers like after the bout? Did they show some mutual respect or did Tony still have his game face on?

Bellew said he respected him, but that he was a man of his word so he wasn't shaking his hand or anything like that. Bit of talk about a rematch in Cardiff, I'm sure Bellew came out with the usual lines about his kids and the gameplan later on, but I switched off when they went to adverts.

Cleverly literally looked like he couldnt care less that he'd lost ,Bellew was unsuprisingly pretty mellow in victory, none of the "no respect" he promised he would be showing Nathan,he seemed happy to bury the hatchet, although they'll never be best mates of course, tepid to say the least

Thanks, it's a shame the bout wasn't what was promised and I tend to like it when all the bad blood is forgotten about after the fight; some people aren't made that way though.

Do you think that Nathan cashed out or did he feel Tony's power and tuck up? Building a strong fan base is difficult to do and not boxing to your best is a bit of a disgrace really - people spend hundreds to follow a fighter.

I don't think it was anything to do with Bellew's power, he fought like that from the first bell and when Bellew was working him over on the ropes, or at least trying to, he didn't fold under the pressure. I can only assume he was cashing out, although the cynic in me says that he was making sure it was close to set up a third fight.

If he was trying to set up a 3rd bout I'm glad he's been too clever for his own good. Cruiserweight is a funny division, with people a bit big for lightheavy and people coming down from heavyweight. At least all the hype is done with, when's Bellew boxing next and what are the odds on him going mental again pre fight?

I just cant believe that Cleverly never injured his right hand,he threw it maybe 10 times and it was sparingly,i was thinking Nathan was content to let the rounds slip away in the intention of going hell for leather later on when Bellew tired but suprisingly it was Clev who gassed....badly and Tony pressed forward with no real quality in what he was doing but he wanted it more and deserved a UD,Tony was knackered too but dug deep to outwork Cleverly at the finish

Cleverly opted to just lay against the ropes the last few rounds for literally minutes not moving but wasnt taking too much TBF and got off some counters but not enough IMO

Article on the BBC has a quote from cleverly saying he 'hurt it' in the 3rd round, but that was the only real detail

In all honesty it was not a good fight to watch but I guarentee that was due to the fact cleverly didn't want to fight, I couldn't believe his tactics all he done was back off and glue his hands to his face he was terrified, he went at kovalev head on but didn't even fancy a single exchange against bellew.
A few have said his hand was injured that is a load of bollocks! He has come out and said he hurt it a bit but it's not injured, people must remember when they had the first fight bellew completely broke his hand in the second round and needed surgery but he still threw it all night.

I think he has a chance at world honours Deffo! It won't be easy at all the guys are big and strong but he is adapting to the weight with each fight and if he does fail it won't be for the lack of trying

Do you really believe cleverly performed 5hite to get a third fight come on mate if that's the case that's why bellew didn't beat him the first time around he wanted a trilogy
The 3rd fight won't happen who would want to see that now after cleverlys shocking performance!!!!!! Imo clev is done now there's no where for him to go

Bellew wasn't much better to be honest; throwing wild and couldn't finish a shot Clev in the last 4 rounds  !
