Chris Algieri vs Jessie Vargas

Post by hulkmaniac »

Who do you think wins this fight? I'd go with Algieri outboxing Vargas for 12 rounds.

I think Vargas would win. Algieri is game enough to go the distance.

He handled Provodnikov ?   Provodnikov handled himself by walking into Algieri's touches which judges were scoring like punches. If they fought again, a result would be totally different.

Him versus Vargas would be an interesting fight though.

Algieri would beat Vargas via decision. Algieri is better than what he showed last night. Manny just made him look that way.

Algieri has no power though that would stop Vargas in his tracks. Vargas will just keep coming and win on activity alone, even if he isnt landing.

I'd like to see Algieri Vs Danny Garcia personally.

Hopefully they cancel each other out. Vargas is an OK fighter but he's not much beyond that. Algieri would probably win a decision by running from Vargas' slaps.

Algieri vs Postol would be interesting too. Postol will probably outbox Algieri but not as impressively as Manny.

Algieri would probably beat Vargas and Postol, IMO.

Due to Provo's dumbness, Algieri is overrated now.

The problem is that Vargas isn't very good either. Stylistically, the fight favors Algieri because he's willing to fight in the least fan friendly style possible to win and because Vargas doesn't possess any particular individual skill which leads you to believe he'll pose issues for Algieri. He isn't such a good slick boxer that he can't be hit either going forwards or backwards. He is most certainly not a puncher. His handspeed is not extra ordinary. His footwork and ability to close the distance isn't remarkable. Nothing about Vargas appears special. What we've seen from him leads me to believe Algieri could land largely meaningless blows and run for 36 minutes en route to a win.

The question is if judges will give him a win if the fight happens in Vegas. One thing is when you are a hometown fighter competing with a foreigner, but in Vegas he may not be on the receiving end.

This would be a major jab contest that puts half of the viewers to sleep.
I would favor Algieri 60/40.

More so is true for Vargas. Had Alakhverdiev fought entire fight like the second half he would knock Vargas the fck out.

Algieri vs Paulie M. would be a decent fight, with a slight edge to Paulie. They can pitter pat each other into submission.
