Boxers of the past forum...
Boxers of the past forum...
Hardly anything about the past gets discussed here anymore...
It's always fantasy match-up these days... What happened to times past where intelligent posters always had great stories to tell?

Well if you don't like many of the topics being raised, start some that are of interest to youTantum wrote:Hardly anything about the past gets discussed here anymore...?
I've posted my fair share of 'fantasy match-ups' on the forum and the reasons for this are thus-Tantum wrote:It's always fantasy match-up these days... What happened to times past where intelligent posters always had great stories to tell?
(1) They are fun.
(2) As debate is organic a fantasy match-up is often a good way of opening a debate on both the fighters mentioned and any relative topics, fighters etc.

past discussions
Tantum, try go way back into the archives in here. Start around the 600 page mark. You'll be surprised at how the discussions then are remarkably similar to the topics now.

point of view
I think the issue here is that there was a period where all we appeared to get was the fantacy fights. However this does show how popular they are...
a separate forum may be a way to go on this and i would be in favor of it to be quite honest.

...i'm here more than on the current scene....and while fantasy fights can be entertaining ...and i post on them from time to time...i agree with tantum that they shouldn't dominate the forum.
it is really the best place i know of though to get answers to questions about the days when boxing was in its glory..plus for discussions in general about that era...or eras. (I added the plural to head off boxbuzz from asking "era...which era?")
however, tantum, since you've brought the subject up...how about starting a thread yourself?

Not being snooty or anything but the 'Blonde Slut' post that has recently surfaced here is an example of the sort of threads which I don't like to see on here... I've got a good sense of humour but soem posters just make up the most inane threads... luckily most of them seem confined to the current scene so far!... 8)

agree
i fully agree on this.I find it in very bad taste and hope it is deleted or locked and the person who posted it warned the will not be welcome if they do such things in future. It is childish and not worthy of this forum to be polite.silkov wrote:Not being snooty or anything but the 'Blonde Slut' post that has recently surfaced here is an example of the sort of threads which I don't like to see on here... as you say a sense of humour we all have but posts of that nature are in no way funny.

my opinion
I will do that and I am sure John will get back to people on this. If it is possible to do so I think it would be a very popular forum and as others have said would lead on to other debate.Tantum wrote:Snell... I agree with the seperate forum for fantasy fights. Someone ought to run it by Shep.
To say that is trivia etc is rather foolish it is a question of what people feel the site is about and responding to the members of the forum. we all have our particular interest - otherwise why do we post - and it is only when we make suggestions will the site develop etc
It was not long back when I and friends such as Silkov asked for a facility to upload and share photo's etc and then it came into being with the WIKI facility
Its worth saying at this point that RIC has done a great job on this and "nice work"
all the best for the new year

fantasy matchups are a great topic of discussion... they get people talking about fighters, and i have leaRNED alot just by reading what people know about fighters, such as there strengths and weakness'es n how that would effect them in certain fights. sorry its been a while guys. merry christmas and happy new year.

I've missed the blond slut thread, or it would have been deleted! I try to keep nonsense and childish posts of that nature out of this section, but I no doubt miss some.
Actually, I reponded to that thread...though I should have deleted it, which I thought about doing, but didn't, though now I will!
