Howard Foster
Howard Foster
So that's 2 rather high profile early stoppages now. I just can't get my head round why he waved it off without starting a count. What I don't get even more tho is the board of control or whoever sanctioned the show, having the same ref down for 2 12 rounders on the trot. There was an abudance of a star referees there so why was this allowed to happen? Granted the Quigg fight wasn't the hardest to ref but surely there is still some mental and physical fatigue after 12 rounds.

That's harsh. It was an early stoppage for me as well, but he was the guy closest to Periban and maybe he saw something we didn't?reggaereggae wrote: Edited by Mod
Re: Howard Foster
How can you not even give the guy a stading eight count??? He had never been stopped before in 23 fights and fought good opposition!forcefraser wrote:That's harsh. Re: Howard Foster
Clown should never ref a fight in this country again. Disgraceful stoppage to not even give the guy a chance to stand up.
Re: Howard Foster
Bit harsh lads, think fosters a good ref even the groves stoppage don't look that bad after watching it again

It was pure incompetence. I can almost understand the Froch/Groves stoppage as it was in the heat of the moment. But Periban went down, Foster could see he was down, and he didn't even bother counting. Utterly terrible refereeing. These idiots know the criticism they get but still their pathetic officiating continues.
No doubt some chucklehead will chime in with the 'Better too early than too late!' nonsense. How about stopped at the right time.

Howard Foster must be terrible in the bedroom.
Re: Howard Foster
Good post, really relevant to a criminally early stopped fight. In fact to prevent any injuries in the ring I think we should have a poll before every match and just proclaim the poll winner as the bout winner too. No need to actually box the actual fight.taffytoon wrote:Here we go; hope this satisfies your needs -Riddick Blowe wrote:johnswan1 wrote:Clown should never ref a fight in this country again. Re: Howard Foster
I think overall Howard is a good ref but to make a worse mistake than the one he got crucified for is poor form
Periban was hurt and maybe after an 8 count he would be within his rights to stop it but Periban has never been KO'd and been in with some good opposition,he deserved the chance to steady himself which i honestly thought he could have, whether he would made the end of the round/fight is another thing but i agree with thr posts about neutral officials when it comes to International fights

Thanks dsimpson.
Another thread here on Foster's alleged tendency to stop fights earlier in favour of the house (or "A-side") fighter: http://www.BS.com/forums/archi ... 19309.html.
Maybe we should have a look around to see how many examples we can find? If there's a pattern here then further investigation is warranted.

Re: Howard Foster
I remember criticising foster on here pre the froch stoppage and in the guys defence he came on and argued his case really well.
Oh how times change, back then there were lots of "best ref in the country" posts.
In fact, the arse kissing he received was quite a spectacle.

He is way too quick to stop fights. Someone wants to tell him boxing isn't a non contact sport.

Re: Howard Foster
Point the finger at Periban.
Turned up out of shape seriously overweight and was looking for a way out.
He even looked over to his corner and shook his head.
So whats a ref to do with a "fighter" that gets tagged and wants out of there ?
Send him out for another whacking ?
What would you all be like if he'd have made him carry on and he'd got hurt ?
Come on guys all for having a pop when justified but on this occasion ....
Hope the tosser enjoys his cheque.

Re: Howard Foster
I personally think Howard is a good Ref, he's honest IMO and a decent fella, but he's human and has made mistakes, he has a split second at times to make a very important judgment call, unfortunately you can't always get them right.
He's been involved in many fights like the link I've put below of one of my fighters in a British Eliminator where he's allowed lads to carry on after being hurt or put down and this is the possibility of what happens, have a look and bare that in mind, it's a split second, tough call
The fight below took place 6 days before Froch Vs Groves 1

Re: Howard Foster
tbf there dean Chris had gone down got up early and the finish was two fast shots so i dont think he could have stopped it any earlier he hadnt taken a sustained pounding and wile wobbly was still in control just the final two shots took him clean out really.

Re: Howard Foster
That's not what I'm saying Jon, re-read my post, you've taken a piece of the post and wrongly interpreted I think mate, I'm not saying he should of stopped Chris earlier, he had no need too, that's not what I'm saying, id rather a ref jump in too soon rather than leave it and risk one of my lads being hurt, and before anyone says it, yes my lads have been at the end of bad ref'ing/judging decisions. Like I said, Howard is a good honest bloke and good ref IMO, So I was defending Howard and all refs in fact, they have a tough job to do and only a millisecond to react, sometimes they get it right sometimes they get it wrong, there only human
