Arum turns down Mayweather fight offer?
Re: Arum turns down Mayweather fight offer?
To throw gasoline into the fire I will add the following:
Who is the #1 highest paid athlete in the world for the past 2 years?
Hint #1: It isn't Manny Pacquiao
Hint #2: It is a guy who left Top Rank by buying out the remainder of his contract so that he had a lot more control over the rest of his career.
BTW, Manny Pacquiao makes a lot of money but nowhere near what Floyd Mayweather earns.

You're just too stupid to understand the truth. It's not for no reason, - Mayweather stated that he pays Golden boy, between 1.5 million and 2.5 million dollars for their services, depending on how many and which of their fighters he uses on the undercard, it's all there in one of the articles I posted a link to. Of course you didn't read them, and even if you did, you wouldn't believe it, preferring instead to brand it all lies, rather than believe for a second that Mayweather is what he actually is, a very shrew operator, who is the highest earner in the sport, and who is not signed with any promoter. This is unlike Manny, who just signed another 3-year contract with Arum, and who consequently, is fighting the likes of Algieri, who whilst no scrub, is hardly going to bring in huge viewing figures.Ricky_ wrote:jamesmcdonnell wrote:
God almighty! Are you mentally deficient - I SAID GOLDEN BOY IS THE PROMOTER IN NAME ONLY.
what an idiot. They pick up the bills and collect tha dollaz for no reason. Go do one holmes, you ain't got a fvcking clue
Whether you can accept it or not, Mayweather has the whip hand in negotiations, he's the bigger box office right now, and unless Pacman does something dramatic it's going to remain so. Arum is making offers he knows Mayweather won't accept, and doesn't need to.
It's all a moot point though, they are both old, and the fact is, I very much doubt the fight will happen, Arum has no real interest in it happening, as he has a personal grudge against Mayweather, for leaving him, and going it alone (if you recall he had a similar grudge against Oscar for doing the same) - so he makes offers that he knows will not be accepted all the while taking his nice fat cut from Manny's fights, whilst trying to protect his cash cow.
Manny is one of my favourite fighters, has been for years, I prefer watching him to Mayweather any day, however, unlike you, this doesn't blind me to the reality of the situation. He is no longer the huge star he was a few years ago, and he wouldn't have much chance if he did face Mayweather now, not that it will happen.

Floyd's fights keep losing money, you suck ups are funny. Both sides suck ups.KBB wrote:There is no script to flip, Manny isn't the Draw, you guys need to quit thinking that Manny is in the driver's seat or that he deserves 50-50, this isn't 2010.demon1 wrote:If you flip the script, the result is the same dude. Look at Pacquiao's PPV numbers, regardless of how much you hate Floyd at the end of the day this is still a business and Floyd holds the cards.
If Manny really wanted the fight as badly as he claims in the public then this is a very fair offer worth twice or even nearly 3 times what he receives in his current PPV fights.
Take your hate for Floyd out of the equation and see this from a business perspective.

="fergusg"]Am I in a minority of one that has become exceptionally bored of all the talk about a fight between Mayweather & Pacquiao that may never materialise?
attracted 925K PPV buys.
Manny Pacquiao earned $25m to face Algieri, for a PPV event that is likely to draw less than 500K buys, which is based on the 470K figure from the Rios fight (as Chris isn’t a big name opponent like Juan Manuel Marquez or Timothy Bradley).
If you’re correct about your claims that Floyd’s PPV events are actually “losing money”, which no one can possibly quantify with any real evidence? Is it also reasonable to assume that Top Rank & HBO are losing money staging Pacquiao PPV’s?
Out of interest, it seems as though Manny’s options for potential opponents for his next fight is extremely limited, based on the general rule that has very few exceptions (due to Pacquiao being contracted to both Top Rank and Showtime):
(Al Haymon OR Showtime) + (HBO OR Top Rank) = NO FIGHT!
Here’s a high-level overview of the current boxing landscape from the 140lb to 154lb weight classes:
• Floyd Mayweather Jr. - An Al Haymon fighter contracted to Showtime
• Tim Bradley - Was clearly defeated by Pacquiao in his previous fight
• Juan Manuel Marquez - Pacquiao's advisor (Michael Koncz) isn't keen on this match-up due to the size of the fight purse demanded by Marquez
• Kell Brook - Not a big name fighter, but could be a potential opponent
• Marcos Maidana - An Al Haymon fighter
• Shawn Porter - An Al Haymon fighter
• Keith Thurman - An Al Haymon fighter
• Robert Guerrero - An Al Haymon fighter
• Amir Khan - An Al Haymon fighter
• Devon Alexander - An Al Haymon fighter
• Ruslan Provodnikov - Was defeated by Chris Algieri in his last fight
• Luis Collazo - An Al Haymon fighter that was dominated by Amir Khan
• Andre Berto - An Al Haymon fighter that lost three of his previous five bouts
• Paulie Malignaggi - An Al Haymon fighter that may be retired and was destroyed by Shawn Porter
• Danny Garcia - An Al Haymon fighter that still campaigns at 140lbs
• Lucas Matthysse - An Al Haymon fighter
• Lamont Peterson - An Al Haymon fighter
• Adrien Broner - An Al Haymon fighter
• Canelo Alvarez - Is likely to face Miguel Cotto in May
• Austin Trout - An Al Haymon fighter
• Jermell Charlo - An Al Haymon fighter
• Jermall Charlo - An Al Haymon fighter
• Erislandy Lara - An Al Haymon fighter that has lost his previous bout against Canelo Alvarez
• Alfredo Angulo - An Al Haymon fighter
• Demetrius Andrade - Soon to become a Showtime fighter… and has some sort of remote affiliation with Al Haymon
• Vanes Martirosyan - An Al Haymon fighter
• Carlos Molina - An Al Haymon fighter
• Ishe Smith - Affiliated to Al Haymon by proxy of being a Mayweather fighter
• Cornelius "K9" Bundrage - Has his fights televised by Showtime… and I’m not sure if he has a contract with that network
Who is available that can also be considered as a commercially viable opponent for Manny’s next fight?
It’s abundantly clear that Floyd Mayweather can pick-and-choose his opponents, but Manny Pacquiao’s handlers seemingly have their hands tied… and they cannot attract big PPV numbers when there doesn’t appear to be any obvious big-name fighters to match Manny with?
Do we really need to see Pacquiao-Bradley III or Pacquiao-Marquez V?
Did Pacquiao decide to stay with Top Rank purely because he wanted receive the huge contract extension bonus payment funded by HBO, to help pay off the $68m debt he owes to the US and Filipino tax officials?:??
Manny would have surely realised that staying with Bob Arum rather than becoming a free agent (like Miguel Cotto) has limited his choice of opponents to almost scandalous proportions

Re: Arum turns down Mayweather fight offer?
How on earth has Pacquiao managed to get himself in such terrible hot water financially. He may have felt he had no choice to sign the contract with Arum given his circumstances - Tax Evasion is a very serious business in the U.S you do jail time for unpaid back taxes.
Fact is, there is zero chance of the Mayweather fight happening right now and there are hardly any options for a big fight for Pacquaio elsewhere right now - who on earth can he fight that is going to whet people's appetites?

fergusg wrote:I’d also read Bob Arum’s comments about Manny’s next opponent will come from Las Vegas… and this means that his most likely foe will be the feather-fisted Jessie Vargas, who’s not even considered as a top six 140lb-er.ikorolev wrote:I suspect that Manny will be fighting Vargas @140 next.
That being said, if Freddie Roach and Bob Arum prefer to match Manny against 140lb-ers, then they’re picking from a limited roster of available and commercially viable fighters:
• Danny Garcia - An Al Haymon fighter
• Lucas Matthysse - An Al Haymon fighter
• Lamont Peterson - An Al Haymon fighter
• Chris Algieri - Has already been dominated by Pacquiao
• Ruslan Provodnikov - Lost against Chris Algieri
• Adrien Broner - An Al Haymon fighter
• Mauricio Herrera - Rumoured to be signing with Al Haymon and was recently defeated by Danny Garcia
• Zab Judah - Believed to be an Al Haymon fighter, but was defeated in three of his last four fights (to fellow Al Haymon fighters: Khan; Garcia; and Malignaggi)
• Viktor Postol - Unbeaten, untested and unheralded
• Khabib Allakhverdiev - Lost his previous bout against Jessie Vargas
The fact that Jessie Vargas is an unbeaten world champion that won’t present a serious threat to Pacquiao’s chin, makes him an attractive option for Top Rank, because let’s face it… there really isn’t any other commercially viable light welterweight alternatives to pick from!![]()
HBO & Top Rank cannot select Al Haymon fighters, nor would they consider men that has recently tasted defeat and are on a poor run of form!
I agree that the more likely option for MP at 140 is Vargas (at least he has a belt/title) but truthfully speaking he doesn't stand a snowball's chance in Hell vs Manny, I think he'd get blasted out in probably 5 rounds maybe less if Pacquiao goes all out.
No way does he get thrown into the fray with Herrera, Postal has zero credibility right now despite what he's done and he has nothing to gain and too much of a danger element in facing Ruslan Provodnikov/little reward-high risk. We know that Arum has a mission to protect his fighter from any of Haymon fighters because once he takes one then the demand will be on for him to face Floyd (and we know Arum is not having that at all).
