david pearce cruiserweight
would David Pearce have done well at the cruiserweight limit? as today's weight limits go he would have been well inside the limit
Re: david pearce cruiserweight
He had brilliant range and timing that's why he KO'd a lot of big Heavyweights and he had an awesome chin he would have won a Cruiserweight World title easily today as a lot of the Champions recently can't take a punch..
I agree he might have struggled with a mobile Haye but someone like a Enzo Maccrenelli would have been Taylor made and hit into next week David Pearce KO the 18stone Larry McDonald when he was Unbeaten and feared and Dennis Andries he was a massive puncher and prob could have made Light Heavy

He was a very good fighter, but the cruiser division came in too late for him. Sadly died early of brain related injuries caused by his time in the ring. The welsh have had a couple of good heavies who have had tragicendings in recent times-Rudi Pika also comes to mind.

This shows why he would have been very dangerous at World Cruiserweight level

David 'Bomber' Pearce would have obliterated the Cruiserweights today!mercman wrote:Cruiserweight would have suited him better when it was 190lb. There are some big lumps at cruiserweight now the limit's 200lbs, some of them 3 or 4 inches taller and probably walking round quite a bit heavier than Pearce was. Maybe light-heavyweight would have suited him best. 175lb might well have been a struggle for Pearce who was a powerfully-built bloke but with the right training and diet regime maybe he could have done light-heavy. He would have been a real handful at that weight.
He never had training camps, or dietician or nutritionalists. His sparring was limited due to injury; and look what he still achieved.
I understand your point though. He could have been a World Champion at both Light Heavy and Cruiserweight.
The KO's of Andries and Larry Mc Donald proved that especially as no one wanted to fight them at that point in time.

Terry Lawless told Mickey Duff at the Royal Albert Hall 'David Pearce vs Gordon Ferris.basham wrote:Were the Bruno camp afraid of the Bomber
'Frank Bruno will never fight David Pearce'
Roger Williams was at the meeting, he said at that time in there careers Pearce, was on fire and Frank Bruno, had been shaken badly so they didn't want the risk of losing at domestic level.
Re: david pearce cruiserweight
Regarding David ' Bomber' Pearce he was a good amateur boxer but when he turned professional, they were much too big so he had to change his style.mercman wrote:Pearce was as tough as old boots and he could punch. However, although he wasn't that big he wasn't particularly fast or mobile and his skills weren't brilliant. So I think he would have been a good cruiserweight but maybe not the very best. A bit like Carl Thompson perhaps.
This is why he took punches and had to fight to negate the range.
I would also say Pearce had an iron chin, and huge power. His timing was also impeccable.
Thompson was a great fighter with huge heart.
