Everything about his awful performance last night points towards him rooting for a Pacquiao UD. Gifting Pacquiao early 10-8 rounds with KDs that were obviously slips, but more obviously his disgraceful showing in round 9.
The count was slow.. very slow, 10 seconds from Algieri landing flat on his back, he was still on his knees. By 12 seconds he was stumbling away to the corner with his back to the ref who insisted he was going to continue. He was then awarded a standing 8 (wtf) and broke the action with Algieri on the ropes following that. Why?
Stinks.
Was Pac v Algieri ref Genaro Rodriguez corrupt?
Re: Was Pac v Algieri ref Genaro Rodriguez corrupt?
Its funny I read some similar comments back in 2009 when the Pac/Cotto fight was stopped. Cotto could have finished the fight, but apparently the ref was corrupt?

At the very least I would call him inept and incompetent. I’ll have to admit that my illegal stream was a bit sketchy

Had the ref stopped it, all you would've heard is how "Algieri could've continued" and the ref was paid to give Pacquiao a KO.
Re: Was Pac v Algieri ref Genaro Rodriguez corrupt?
It was a very average performance by the ref in many instances. Luckily it was never going to change the outcome (winner) of the bout.
Re: Was Pac v Algieri ref Genaro Rodriguez corrupt?
Not sure whose interests Rodriguez would be serving by forcing the fight into a UD, unless he bet on the fight or was working for someone who did. There's no way Pacquiao / Arum would have wanted a UD, and there's no way that Algieri has anything to influence Rodriguez with. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that they were in China, where boxing cards are rarely held, and he was trying to set-up an even more brutal KTFO to make the Chinese audience more interested in boxing. Honestly, I don't see any possible explanation for why you'd allow the challenger to continue when he's getting up at 10, and he's vastly behind on the scorecards, even if the ref was corrupt.
