Worst prediction I ever made. What was yours?

Yep, I embarrassed myself good on this one. Why? Because I did not educate myself on what Calzaghe could really do.

IF I would have gone back and seriously reviewed both mens body of filmed fights, I wouldn't have made such an ass of myself.

I locked on to some very goofy assumptions. (Which I honestly don't do that often.) Talk about lazy. But I really wanted to make Calzaghe out to be a joke.

The joke was on me, and I paid dearly for my bad betting. lol.


I have vowed never to speak badly of Joe again. And I won't.

I'll also probably have very little positive to say about his opponent.

I'll probably have alot. I remember predicting Edwin Rosario over Julio Cesar Chavez by a 7th rd KO. I think I had Gerry Cooney KO'ing Larry Holmes in 4. I picked Tua against Lennox Lewis. Davey Moore against Duran, and even Hagler to stop Leonard.

Add me to that one, I worried for Froch going into that one. I also thought he'd lose wide to Taylor and that'd be the last of Froch at title level.

I did the same with this fight. I was sick of Joes paper title reign and hoped that limited Lacey could end it.

Marquez vs Mayweather, I thought it would have a least been close!

Well I've got a few notable picks that spectacularly wrong:


1. Beyer would beat Kessler in their 2006 fight.
I had an inflated opinion of Beyer, don't get me wrong I still think that he was a very good fighter, but I thought that (despite the obvious height and reach advantage) Mikael would have been too naive and cumbersome to outpoint the wily old fox that Beyer was.
Upon watching the fight, I realised how great a fighter Kessler was...

- Although I have said it before, but in my defence - there was a poll in the current scene leading up to the fight and the BoxRec majority also thought that Beyer would have beaten him. So I wasn't alone in my misjudgement.


2. Pacquaio would conclusively TKO Juanma Marquez in 2012
It's obvious what happened... But once again, the vast majority fancied a heavy Pacquaio victory over his old rival. And that knockout was cold!


3. Martinez to outpoint Cotto this year
We all looked at Sergio as the number one Middleweight in the world, and it was a big step-up for Miguel, moving up yet another weight and facing a dominant World Champion... But alas, Sergio was shot - Cotto was back to his best.

I genuinely thought Matt Macklin might be the man to bring the untested GGG crashing down to earth......which in retrospect was somewhat optimistic, bordering on the incompetent. Also recall getting Sam Peter v Vitali K completely the wrong way round.

Yeah it was his one-punch type of power that I found intriguing.
But nope, couldn't win the big fights. Fortunately I never bet any money on him :)
