Helenius
Helenius
Anyone have any news on him? He was looking good until the Chisora fight. Did he break his hand in the first round? That fight was a blatant robbery but not his fault & he did well to fight the distance in that state.
Anyway, is it all over for him now or any news of a comeback?

Re: Helenius
The last time i saw him he has a fucked up voice lol
Re: Helenius
He was looking good against trash men. Then fought Chisora and got his ass kicked.
Re: Helenius
He had a separated shoulder or something like that in the Chisora fight. I assume ring rust and lingering shoulder unwellness is also why his comeback trail was pretty lackluster. But then he also got punched in the throat during sparring and damaged his vocal cords, which I believe is why he's been avoiding getting back in the ring.

Re: Helenius
Originally it was a badly damaged shoulder (required surgery) and hand against Chisora.
Now it's legal battles with Sauerland. He is ready to get back in the ring, but Sauerland has effectively ended his career. It's one of the major problems with boxing. Too much power in the hands of the fat cats. Helenius was one of the top prospects IMO. His power was scary. Too long away from the game now to give it a serious run like he could have.

Of all the people who came down the pipe in recent years, I was almost certain Helenius was going to be the next heavyweight champion of the world. He could take a punch, had a hell of a punch, and other than being a big heavyweight also, he had "the look".... the dude looked like something that walked out of the legends of Thor.
Then came the shoulder injury, and then the hand injury, and then the legal problems...
Stick a fork in it... its over.

Re: Helenius
You were certain he'd be world champion bc he beat up on absolute bums? The list of guys who have done that is endless. The list of them who ended up becoming world champs is a very very short one.HomicideHenry wrote:Of all the people who came down the pipe in recent years, I was almost certain Helenius was going to be the next heavyweight champion of the world. Re: Helenius
It would be good if he comes back. but I never understood the hype. Struggled against Peter before the KO, struggled against Liakhovich before the KO, lost the Chisora fight, had trouble with Sherman and Sprott. he has OK power. his 57% KO ratio suggests hes not the killer people think he is. he still has the height and good ability but hes not beating a Klitschko

In his 11th fight he kayoed former WBO champion Lamon Brewster... in his 15th fight he kayoed former WBC champion Samuel Peter... and the following fight he kayoed former WBO champion Siarhei Liakhovich... by all intents and purposes at the time it looked like he was cleaning house... not that many people I can name defeated that kind of opposition that early on in their careers... hell the man still has less than 20 fights as a pro!diddy wrote:You were certain he'd be world champion bc he beat up on absolute bums? Brewster, Peter and Liakhovich were SHOT TO PIECES when he fought those guys!! Is it gonna be a good win for Provo when he wacks out Castillo's corpse this wk?HomicideHenry wrote:In his 11th fight he kayoed former WBO champion Lamon Brewster... in his 15th fight he kayoed former WBC champion Samuel Peter... and the following fight he kayoed former WBO champion Siarhei Liakhovich... by all intents and purposes at the time it looked like he was cleaning house... not that many people I can name defeated that kind of opposition that early on in their careers... hell the man still has less than 20 fights as a pro!diddy wrote:You were certain he'd be world champion bc he beat up on absolute bums? Bleh @ shot to pieces, you must be a new fan to boxing or something, else you wouldn't say such crap.diddy wrote:

Liakhovich was coming off two wins in his comeback, and prior to that his losses were to Valuev and Briggs. Sure, he was rusty--- but--- he wasn't some sh!t can bum either. Not the way you are making it out to be. The only issue the White Wolf has ever had is being chinny--- outside of that, he was a good boxer.
Peter was coming off a loss (Klitschko rematch) and prior to that had 4 wins. He didn't seem shot on paper, at least. Some will argue he was never the same man after the first Klitschko fight in 2005, but hell even at that he was still capable of beating Toney (twice), McCline, Maskaev. Again--- even if he was on the downside, he certainly was not shot to pieces as you claim. Also, outside of Klitschko brothers, Helenius was the only man to ever stop Peter.
Brewster, is a bit harder to argue with--- before facing Helenius he was 2-2 in his last four. However, you can't deny Brewster's power and experience--- after all just five years prior to this contest be blew away Golota in ONE round. This was also the same man who kayoed Klitschko (even if he did lose the rematch). I've interviewed Brewster on a few ocassions and he will tell you (in truth) that he was blind in that left eye of his since the Liakhovich fight despite retina surgery--- and even in that condition he was capable of beating strong, durable journeymen. HOWEVER, I'll give you that one... Brewster was damaged goods.

Let's talk Sergei Liakhovich. He beat Lamon Brewster in an all out war at a time that Brewster was a real force in the division and may have been the #1 guy based on results. Brewster basically went blind after that fight (we'll revisit that in a moment), but I can't blame Liakohivich for that. If anything, destroying the guy's eye is a credit. Then he lost by KO after looking TERRIBLE in his next fight against Shannon "Can Crusher" Briggs and dropped every round to Nikolay Valuev. Valuev, BTW, was terminally overrated, and it isn't a good look to lose 12 rounds against a guy who only legitimately won 3-4 against old Larry Donald. You mention his comeback - yes, he won two straight fights! One was against Jeremy Bates. Case closed. Other win was against Evans Quinn, a heavy handed gatekeeper type that resulted in a brawl. This same Evans Quinn lost a decision to Harvey Jolly and got a draw against the sad, sad shell of Luis Andres Pineda.Liakhovich was coming off two wins in his comeback, and prior to that his losses were to Valuev and Briggs. Sure, he was rusty--- but--- he wasn't some sh!t can bum either. Not the way you are making it out to be. The only issue the White Wolf has ever had is being chinny--- outside of that, he was a good boxer.
(Should we talk about Liakhovich before the Brewster fight either? Got stopped 100% legit by Mo Harris.)
Sam Peter is roughly 6-7 years older than his claimed age, making him in his late 30s by the time he fought Helenius. Eddie Chambers outboxed him. He beat the usual assortment of professional opponents before getting stopped by Klitschko in a fight where he was a late replacement for Povetkin. He was already assumed to be on the wrong side of his career when Eddie Chambers defeated him by decision. Let's not remake this into him being a resurgent force.Peter was coming off a loss (Klitschko rematch) and prior to that had 4 wins.
Yeah, so we both know he's damaged goods that lost to Gbenka Olokun. Why pretend that it is some feather in Helenius' cap?I've interviewed Brewster on a few ocassions and he will tell you (in truth) that he was blind in that left eye of his since the Liakhovich fight despite retina surgery

You're right - I'm not a good primary source. So many people have put their name to the rumor that there's no reason to pretend it isn't at least plausible. I pretty much believe it as gospel truth at this stage given the rapid decline that he's in (his real age would be somewhere around 39-40) and who has said it to me previously.

He's chilling out, safe in the knowledge that whatever happens, he has the most bad ass voice on the planet.

Thanks for all the responses. I thought he looked a decent talent. I have no idea how he would have progressed (no one does) but it would have been nice if it had played out in the ring rather than at the doctors or lawyers office.

Re: Helenius
On his Twitter page he says he's coming back soon, and he appears to be in great shape and in training.
Re: Helenius
It seems like his power was significantly impaired by some of the injuries he's suffered. I thought he used to be quite a good puncher but he couldn't even budge chinny Michael Sprott, and without his power he's going to have a tough time beating top HWs.
Re: Helenius
He fought Sprott one handed :geek2:
