Thats the fighter he should aim for, Chris Byrd.

He needs to avoid the big punchers because his chin aint up to it at World level, IMO.

I'd probably give him a better chance vs Byrd than vs Skelton, I really think Byrd is aging and ready to lose.

Danny also made the top 15 of the independent Boxingranks writers poll this month. Alongside a few other new British enteries such as Carl Froch and David Haye (who makes the top ten).

His chin was good against Tyson and Vitali although Tyson wasn't world level he could still hit harder than the top 10.

Danny is top at least top 20 so I'd agree with top 15.

Danny was tough vs both, but was hurt and hurt badly vs Tyson (whose punches DEFINATELY weren't as good after the injury) - he was hurt and hurt badly early vs Klitchko. He never recovered from the first round when he was doing funny dances all over the place.

He was also hurt, badly, vs Harrison, Sprott and Sam. None of whom are far from world class punchers. Also vs Potter and Mivrovic he was being backed up.

He's tough, but I definately feel the likes of Rahman and Brewester will KO him. Valuev and especially Byrd are his best bet.

I would agree with all of this except about Sam - in the current heavyweight crop I'd say he IS a world-class puncher. Granted he couldn't put a dent in Gonzalez, but then he couldn't hit him either.

William's chin isn't bad by any means, but he does seem to get hurt by anything with some steam on it which he doesn't see coming. I do actually think Harrison has good (not great) power on the rare occasions that he gets his full weight behind shots rather than flaps at the opposition, and Sprott is a decent (if not thunderous) European - level puncher. Rahman would bowl him over the first time he landed a decent one-two, though I think Williams would definitely get up a few times and would always have a chance with that dodgy chin of Rahman. Brewster, though skills-wise a Luddite next to Williams (well, at least before Williams decided his best gameplan was huge shots on the inside) would just be too tough for him, can't see him stopping Brewster or taking too many of those left hooks.

Good post Dookus, although I would disagree with Sam.

15 KOs from 24 wins- isn't fantastic, as people have said here before. If Francis' extends you then I think question marks must be raised about your power. Francis last 7 one sided rounds, with a broken rib, before taking a knee. Fighters like Maskaev lasted the course fine, and his chin isn't great.

Danny is certainly a bigger puncher than Sam, IMO.

I would say Sprott is far too small to be considered a big puncher. He hit Virches with everything, and only once did the overated contender wobble. Even Pele Reid lasted 7 rounds. Its a real pitty for Sprott, because if he had power I think he would have won all of his last 5 fights, instead of just 2 of them.

Fair enough. Most of my assessment of Sam's power comes from his fight with an absolutely awful Danny Williams in 2003, and having seen again his fights with Bakhtov and Gonzalez I think it was more a chin deficit than power deficit (plus Williams' 'shingles', well he was clearly ill with something) that made Danny look so much less strong. He's got a mean uppercut though, watch that barrage he finishes Bakhtov with.

Sprott I think is less too small than just not a puncher, even when he was kicking Danny's arse in their second fight you could see the difference in the effect of what was landing. I would take him to beat a lot of guys at world level with that box-and-move style, until he runs into a Peter or Klitschko type with too much physical strength for him to cope with.

On a side note, one of the things that I think has contributed to the decline of heavyweight boxing in the last 20 years is the increased size of most participants - unless you're Tyson or Holyfield it's difficult to cope with the strength of a man 20-50 lbs heavier than you, and unless you're Lennox Lewis or Wlad Klitschko it's difficult to look coordinated and fluid at these new, bigger sizes.

I would like to see these Golota/Williamson/Oquendo performances before making a judgment. Apparently, he looked poor in all three. Although, it is hard to think he looked worse than Danny has done in his last 3 contests.

I have seen 2 of those fights, although Byrd is slowing he is in a different class to Williams. Especially the 19 stone + version of Williams.

Without doubt, saw Danny Williams vs Michael Murray for the first time in ages the other day. If I didn't know different I wouldn't have recognised him. He looks completely different. He had cheek bones and the nearly a 6 pack.

I know it was only Michael Murray, but he was 10 times the fighter he is now also. So much more agile, so much faster, throwing more than 3 punches before gassing.

Such a waste.

In the 10 years since then, I haven't seen a 23 year old Heavyweight near that class with that potential. Not Dimentrenko, not Mesi, not Peter, not Greenberg, not Boystov, not Shannon Briggs, not even Tua or Ruiz looked as good.

The only one with that kind of potential (actually better) was the 24 year old Ike when he beat Tua.

Being poor against one fighter doesn't mean he'll get beat by another. Skelton needs his chin testing too.

Plus it was Harrison who was poor just holding when he was hit.

The WBC have him rated as 25 now!

Such bullcrap when they rated Audley 14 yet they rate Audley below him at 26 now!

I thought since Audley was rated so high by them he would of got a better rating than that! He's better than most of the crap they rated above him too.

Danny can beat any of the champions apart from maybe Lamont Brewster, the ratings have always been crap and don't mean ought. There should be only one sanctioning body, with universal rankings, these alphabet titles take the piss out of boxing.

A fit 18 - 1/2 stone Danny beats any of the other heavyweights, just his mental and physical problems spoil his talent. This is why I think Skelton will beat him, probably get a shot at Valuev and beat him aswell. Skelton will be world champion by end of year.

Considering the woeful effort from both a drop down the rankings for both is justfified. In reality Harrison should never have been anywhere near # 14 in the first place he is yet to beat a top 50 heavyweight.

Yeah but they shouldn't of rated Audley so high so they should of gave Danny a higher ranking though since he beat Audley when he was 14.
