Provodnikov is a professional boxer; it is his job to hit his opponent and it shows his professionalism that he left his emotions out of it and got Castillo out of there, if he'd have taken it easy and got knocked out by Castillo, what then for Ruslan? I agree that it is the commissioners and managers who have put Castillo in danger.

Everyone knew what the outcome would be, including the shop-worn Castillo.

Poor guy needs the money and he'll take any bout even if he's in over his head.
Provo did what you do in boxing---take the other guy out.
He was under no obligation to hold back. I was surprised Castillo made it to the 5th.
Figured the only way the bout goes past 2 is if Provo decides to carry him for the sake of the Russian crowd.

But give the Mexican credit for not looking for a soft place to land early.
He gave a game effort and Provo fired back.

No one need apologize or be demonized. It was a mismatch from the day the contracts were signed, but everyone here knew that.

Castillo was game, and did not "bow out". It was a fairly fought fight, and yep Castillo was a long shot.

Ask Castillo if he would have like to have passed on the opportunity. I'm thinkin' he was happy to be there, and give it his best. And nothin' wrong with makin a bit of money in his losing effort.

I think that's a little unfair. To label Holmes greedy for taking, what I assume was his biggest payday to date. We all know how Ali was prescribed thyroid medication that rendered him completely useless on the night, but how was Holmes to know anything about the condition of Ali on the night?
I'm sure Holmes was confident but he was facing a 38 year old fighter who looked in good shape and had a history of causing monumental upsets every decade or so.

This fight was a joke and so is Ruslan-- there was article about a year ago, about him only having a short time left boxing, as he wanted to pursue other things outside the ring-- i knew once i read it, the guy was done, you gotta be 100% focused on fighting and in the ring-no surprise he lost and looked like crap in last few fights.

i guess now he can claim "he beat the man, who 10% of boxing fans think beat the man"
