Eubank Jnr's Timing
Eubank Jnr's Timing
Firstly, fair play to both Eubank Jnr and BJS for putting on a good close fight. Eubank proved he's fit and tough enough to do 12 rounds with a Euro class lad like BJS.
One thing i couldn't help notice was poor timing from Eubank, some wild swings that made him look less of a fighter than he probably is. Do you think this was down to over-eagerness due to being behind or was it BJS being quick defensively or just Eubank being inexperienced?? I personally think he could have a decent career if his Dad stopped blowing smoke up his arse and they concentrated on improving his weaknesses.

Re: Eubank Jnr's Timing
His timing was definitely off.... took him 6 rounds to start fighting !
Re: Eubank Jnr's Timing
I know you're close to the Froch camp, did you see him in with Carl? If so, did he hold is own like the rumours suggest?G0mez wrote:His timing was definitely off.... took him 6 rounds to start fighting !
Re: Eubank Jnr's Timing
similar fighter to carl in his early days imo in fact maybe slightly better than carl was at this point.
Re: Eubank Jnr's Timing
Down to being undermatched imo. You fight guys who dont fight back you pick up bad habits. If you are in charge in the training camp and not the trainer you pick up bad habits.danamba7 wrote:Firstly, fair play to both Eubank Jnr and BJS for putting on a good close fight. I know boxers employ the trainer, but sometimes this relationship is not a healthy one.

This defeat might be the best thing to happen to Eubank Jr.
If he doesn't learn anything from this, he has no place in the sport of boxing.

Re: Eubank Jnr's Timing
He's got so used to fighting guys who are confused by anything remotely unorthodox that they allow themselves to be hit by shots that are blatantly telegraphed - which puts him in a similar situation to Naz before he ran into Barrera (except, crucially, Eubank lacks Naz's power). BJS is not a fighter who is fooled by any of that and as a result Eubank couldn't land anything on him until the later rounds when BJS was too knackered to keep moving. Even then at least three-quarters of Eubank's work was landing in clinches.
He needs to go back to basics and learn how to set up shots, not just throw them from weird angles hoping the opponent doesn't notice.

Re: Eubank Jnr's Timing
His gauge of distance during the first five rounds was poor. I don't think Saunders is necessarily much quicker, but he looked it at times because of his superior footwork and sense of distance. You can be as quick and accurate as you like, but you still have to be in range to throw and land those shots.

I don't think his timing is bad. I think he got desperate in the middle of the fight when he knew he needed the KO. If he hunted from the word go, things would likely have been different.

Billy Joe is not really there to be hit. He hits you with a jab and then he's behind you! It's all about the footwork,

Agreed.mickey1975 wrote:Billy Joe is not really there to be hit. He hits you with a jab and then he's behind you! It's all about the footwork,
I would still be interested in watching a rematch down the line, so long as he ditches his ridiculous corner setup and has a few fights against live opponents to work on his timing.
Re: Eubank Jnr's Timing
Yeah a re-match would be good. Oddly enough, they'd benefit from training together (not that it would ever happen). A merge of the 2 fighters could be a world beater!Clint Magnum wrote:Agreed.mickey1975 wrote:Billy Joe is not really there to be hit. He hits you with a jab and then he's behind you! Re: Eubank Jnr's Timing
dont think hes got the humility to learn. and at 25 , if you think you know better than everyone else, it would suggest that youre not ready to learn. everyone goes on about how he would have had more success if he had started quicker, but imnot so sure he has the stamina to do what he does for a full hard 12 rounds. I want to see him fight someone physical like john ryder, see if he can slug it out with someone who is equally as strong.

Would love to see Eubank Jnr in with Ryder or Blackwell.jimcook wrote:dont think hes got the humility to learn. and at 25 , if you think you know better than everyone else, it would suggest that youre not ready to learn. everyone goes on about how he would have had more success if he had started quicker, but imnot so sure he has the stamina to do what he does for a full hard 12 rounds. Both would be good fights. I just wonder if any of them need the other, as there must be easier routes to a titledanamba7 wrote:Would love to see Eubank Jnr in with Ryder or Blackwell.jimcook wrote:dont think hes got the humility to learn. and at 25 , if you think you know better than everyone else, it would suggest that youre not ready to learn. everyone goes on about how he would have had more success if he had started quicker, but imnot so sure he has the stamina to do what he does for a full hard 12 rounds. Re: Eubank Jnr's Timing
And this my friend is the problem. There are too many different directions they can go in. Eubank got a shot at Saunders based on what? best wins Borg and Pryce. Now they will seek to rebuild him with more east europeans, meanwhile he bosses his own training and he learns jack. But they know as long as they keep him unbeaten from here he will still get a shot at some other title down the line.thepocketrocket wrote:Both would be good fights. Re: Eubank Jnr's Timing
It is a sad state of affairs. There will be some intercontinental belt, or some regular' championship they could go for. The Eubank gravy train certainly won't risk two defeats on the spin
Fair play to Billie Joe for risking his ranking against a guy who had beaten no-one but was obviously a decent fighter. I hope it shows others how a good domestic tear up can get you national acclaim.

Re: Eubank Jnr's Timing
Agreed, too many people put too much emphasis on fighters being undefeated, however its the losses (providing its against a decent opponent) where fighters can sometimes learn the most. David Haye's defeat to Thompson for example was a very good thing for him.Syntax Error wrote:This defeat might be the best thing to happen to Eubank Jr.

Re: Eubank Jnr's Timing
Im sure BJS said Eubank is going to be fighting Nick Blackwell for the British title. I assumed it was a fight that had been put in place ready for after the saunders fight. Obviously it could have just been speculation on BJS's part.thepocketrocket wrote:It is a sad state of affairs.
