Over the last few years, allegedly has lost a good few fighters, some of which have been World champions. Those fighters have, more often than not, gone over to Eddie Hearn. This is for two reasons, Sky TV, and Eddie seems to be able to arrange bigger fights for his stable - most notably World title match ups. I love what Eddie has done, but I have an issue.
A Matchroom events and a allegedly event ran one week after another, and having watched both, it is easy to try and point out the positives and negatives of both cards. Overriding all, however, is the amount of 60/40 or 50/50 fights on a card. At the Matchroom event I watch McDonnell, Quigg, Joshua, Groves, and Saunders all in 95/5, or in Joshua's case 100/0, fights. Callum Smith was a 90/10, Degale was a 75/25, and the main event, although dull, was a 50/50.
On the Warren card was some superb fights, and it was a thoroughly entertaining night. Perhaps the best was Walsh Vs Sykes, although a lot could be said for both the Gavin Vs Skeete, and Eubank Jr Vs BJ Saunders fights. These were all entertaining because they were 50/50 as to who may win. I watched on Saturday with a mate of mine, and we disagreed on the potential winner of all three of these fights. That is what boxing should be like, 50/50 fights. If you can't give McDonnell and Quigg decent opponents, then don't put them on an inflated card against bums who don't deserve to fight for a World belt. Producing card with plenty of talent is great, but no one wants one sided fights - they are simply not entertaining. Protecting a boxer's 0 means nothing if they haven't fought against anyone decent.
I hope we will see some good quality Matchroom cards in the future, and watch with some genuine intrigue.
Matchroom Vs Queensberry
Re: Matchroom Vs Queensberry
Matchroom has the better fighters, Queensbury puts on the better fights. If Eddie concentrated more on putting 50 50 fights on instead of just putting "names" on cards, he could leave Warren way, way behind.

Yeah but he'd make less money that way and that's all he cares about.danamba7 wrote:Matchroom has the better fighters, Queensbury puts on the better fights. If Eddie concentrated more on putting 50 50 fights on instead of just putting "names" on cards, he could leave Warren way, way behind.

To be fair, I prefer British boxing post Eddie Hearn compared to pre Eddie Hearn. But he does need to start giving the true fans what they want with more 50/50 or even 60/40 match-ups.lefty wrote:Yeah but he'd make less money that way and that's all he cares about.danamba7 wrote:Matchroom has the better fighters, Queensbury puts on the better fights.
