No, I read it. The bit above is the important bit. Some feeling Frazier past his best, that the Ali fight took a lot out of him blah blah, but Frazier himself firmly rebutting this.abdelfadeeli wrote:I see you've conveniently ignored everything else about the article.Broomhall wrote:Everything you are posting argues against your point. Many top fighters struggle to get up for easy defences or fights and especially after the hype around the Ali fight, Frazier would have been flat and unmotivated against guys like Stander-maybe like Duran against Batten or Laing-but as he says himself-he was "up" and prepared for Foreman.
C'mon man just lay down. Leave it alone.

Then why did Norton unusually get the better of Frazier in sparring after the fotc?Broomhall wrote:No, I read it. The bit above is the important bit. Let me explain it to you since you aren't the sharpest knife in the drawer. Frazier usually handled Norton in sparring. After the Fotc, that all changed. Norton unusually got the better of Frazier. It got to the point where Frazier's camp had to let Norton go.Broomhall wrote:Who cares? sparring is sparring, fighting is fighting.

So nothing to do with Norton improving as a fighter, gaining more confidence and learning how to deal with Fraziers fairly repetitive armoury?
Didnt Foreman destroy Norton as well? or are you now going to claim that Norton was past his best following his two gruelling fights with Ali?
C'mon dude just walk away....

Its only a few dopes.... Broomhall starts these conversations when he goes off his ADD meds and when Mom turns the internet off in the basement. But thats what happens when you use the generic birth control.... I saved a whole buck fifty how was I to know rite aid was not comparable to Trojan man?yancey wrote:abdelfadeeli wrote:Let me explain it to you since you aren't the sharpest knife in the drawer. Broomhall really is a nice guy though.... Its just that when someone offered him an extra chromosome well.... it seemed like a good idea at the time.
And he really follows boxing! he colors in all the figures in his boxing book with his favorite crayola colors.
And I don't want to say the guy lacks sense.... But in his astronomy class when they were trying to figure out how to go to the sun? Broomhall suggested going at night. Oh well....

Why not? according to you he handled him in training, now you seem to be changing your tune again! Nortons form against Ali is just as good if not better than Fraziers, he gave Holmes a very hard fight, and Holmes beats Frazier imo, and overall his resume stacks up well to Fraziers so yeah Norton stands a good chance against Frazier.
And like you admitted earlier Frazier was back to his best when he was sparring with Norton, but you said they had to get rid of him cause be was beating on Joe.

Re: Prime Frazier vs Prime Foreman
Just a thought, but how is a 29 year old Heavyweight Champion with a record of 29-0 (25 KO), and a solid favorite to win the fight, past his prime?
That just doesn't sound right.
I think Frazier was demolished by Foreman not because he was past his prime (in the 1st fight), but because styles make fights and Frazier's style was perfect for Foreman to feast on, so to speak.
Just my opinion of course.

But expect to be 'attacked' by the resident flat earthers who are still in denial 40 years after Joe got bounced around.

When did I admit this? I said Norton was beating Frazier in sparring AFTER the Ali fight Frazier beats Holmes and Norton. Sorry if you can't handle it. http://www.boxing247.com/boxing-news/wh ... rton/29870 That is a prime 1974 Norton against past Prime 1974 Frazier.
Joe Frazier beat Muhammad Ali. Took him the distance twice, was his toughest opponent and had him beat in the third fight when his corner forced him to stop due to a badly swollen eye.
When comparing Holmes and Ali, Ali is superior in every category, most importantly - footwork. He was ten times more graceful, more balanced and quicker on his toes than Holmes, who never judged distances or danced into or away from danger as good as Ali. Holmes also never had as granite a jaw as Ali; Ali took punches of a prime Shavers when he himself was way past it, a young Holmes almost got KTFO by a old shavers. Holmes was also nowhere near as fast.

Re: Prime Frazier vs Prime Foreman
Dont be childish Abdel. Ali was 36 with nearly 60 fights and a reputation for not training. Frazier was 29 with relatively few rounds in the bank.abdelfadeeli wrote:Ali was the favorite to beat Spinks so surely he was in his prime when he lost?cjdragon wrote:Just a thought, but how is a 29 year old Heavyweight Champion with a record of 29-0 (25 KO), and a solid favorite to win the fight, past his prime?

Also in my opinion] Holmes the most underated champ in history and I think he has a shot at beating Frazier, I also think Norton has the style to beat frazier. Futch got rid of Norton cause Norton was whupping him in sparring so as you admitted he has a good chance of beating Frazier

Being a betting favorite was only one of four things I mentioned.abdelfadeeli wrote:Ali was the favorite to beat Spinks so surely he was in his prime when he lost?cjdragon wrote:Just a thought, but how is a 29 year old Heavyweight Champion with a record of 29-0 (25 KO), and a solid favorite to win the fight, past his prime?

The other three were: age, record and styles.
Also, I thought we were talking about Frazier vs Foreman.
Look, I would have bet on Frazier beating Foreman right before their first fight.
But he got clobbered in 2 rounds by someone who had the right style to do it.
I really don't see any objective evidence that Frazier was past his prime at the time of the first Foreman fight.
Re: Prime Frazier vs Prime Foreman
An interesting scientific observation there Abdel
Anyway back to planet earth as you admitted Norton owns Frazier in sparring so futch sends him to the beach, so why is it impossible for Norton or Holmes to beat Frazier?
Tyson was into a non boxing lifestyle, not comparable to Frazier at all. He was completely off the rails and without the men who had kept him on track. Frazier had the same team and was married and a dedicated professional.
Chalk and cheese man, chalk and cheese.

No fighter is prime at 29. Let alone swarmers. Swarmers take far more punishment than anybody else. You still didn't answer my question. Was Tyson prime at 29?cjdragon wrote:Being a betting favorite was only one of four things I mentioned.abdelfadeeli wrote:Ali was the favorite to beat Spinks so surely he was in his prime when he lost?cjdragon wrote:Just a thought, but how is a 29 year old Heavyweight Champion with a record of 29-0 (25 KO), and a solid favorite to win the fight, past his prime?
