As big of a Saad Muhammad fan as I am I think Spinks wins pretty easily.

Round 1: Spinks comes out strong and easily backs Saad into a corner. Spinks starts to pound the body and then near the end of the round a big right appears to have Saad out on his feet but a couple of shots disproves that remark. Spinks' round.
Round 2: Spinks starts out strong again but near mid round is rocked by a right. Saad starts to pound away at his head. Near the end of the round a gigantic hook counter wobbles Saad again. Even round.
Round 3-5: Spinks stays away from his opponents rights and counters with jabs. An occasional flurry impresses the judges though. Spinks' rounds.
Round 6-11: High action rounds with much toe-to-toe action. However, the heavier blows are being landed by Spinks. Saad's face has begun to swell. Spinks' rounds.
Round 12: Spinks starts with a flurry of jabs that cuts Saad's eye. Midway through the round another giagantic hook counter drops Saad. He's up at 4 and continues to take punishment. Spinks' round 10-8
Round 13: Spinks comes out confident and boxes his way through most of the round but is rocked by a hook about midway. Saad's apperant comeback is under way. Saad's round.
Round 14: A huge right at the bell has Spinks hurt early. He covers up and lands a few light counters to keep the ref at a safe distance. Late in the round a strong uppercut stops Saad in his tracks. Saad's round.
Round 15: Apperantly everything Saad had left is gone as he walks out toward Spinks. Mike responds by unleashing a flurry that would have taken off Ali's head. But Saad gets another 2nd wind and begins to swing back. After 2 minutes of sustained action in the middle of the ring, a right uppercut sends him to the ropes. Spinks unloads his famous "Spinks Jinx" as Saad slumps to the canvas. Only the bell saves him from the kayo. Spinks' round. 10-8

Spinks:148
Saad:136

That's my opinion!

Spinks would probably stop Saad late or decision him, but Matthew would give him a few intense moments.

Factoring in Eddie Mustafa's performance with both of them you just have to give the nod to Spinks. Mustafa beat Saad once would he have done it a second time? How would Mustafa have faired against Spinks in a rematch? I don't think it would have been any different.

I think all three of these guys would be competitive. However I have always thought that Saad might have won the scheduled but cancelled rematch with Mustafa.

Spinks on points in a tough fight.

I read Spinks and Saad sparred together once and Spinks handed out a real beating. Not that that is any really form line to go on but it happened never the less, or so I have heard.

I guess I will have to agree with you guys. Saad Muhammad was was very good, but Spinks was a couple of notches above him. It would a good fight; almost all of Saad Muhammad's were. There probably would be some good rounds, but gradually Spinks would take control. Spinks would probably stop him around the 11th or 12th round.

They did fight a lot of common opponents.
Saad Muhammad beat Sutherland, Lopez, (twice),Marvin Johnson (twice), and lost to Qawi(twice) and Mustafa Muhammad (though it was close).

Spinks beat Sutherland (twice),Lopez,Johnson, Qawi and Mustafa Muhammad.

What a great era for lightheavyweights.

BTW- Remember Spinks when you do your Hall of Fame ballot, which is due February 25. :D

LOL Spinks would crush Saad & then they'd have whoever promoted this fight on trial for murder.

I love Saad but guys who took him into deep shit got brutally rolled over by Spinks Jinx.

Spinks was too big, fast, powerful and awkward. Saad was always dangerous and Spinks often ran into rough spots vs many of his better opponents, but Spinks would be too much.

By the way, Spinks barely beat Eddie Mustafa. it might have been a different result if Eddie didn't suffer that eye injury (caused, I know, by a Spinks punch, full credit to Spinks). For the first six rounds he was countering Spinks very well and giving him fits. But Spinks always found a way to win.

In that manner, he has a similarity to Saad though they had totally different approaches.

A lot of people say that Franklin was robbed against Eddie (then Gregory), on the other hand.

Spinks would probably beat Saad on points but it would be a very close fight imo... Saad was one of the best at his peak and his aggressive approach would make things tough for Spinks...
