1982 Robbie Sims-Clint Jackson site correction

Post by ProfessorLindenbrook »

Hello again. While transferring 2 of my original fight telecasts today, I noticed a mistake in your records concerning the location of one of the bouts. On October 16, 1982, Frank "The Animal" Fletcher stopped James "Hard Rock" Green in 6 rounds inside The Copa Room at the Sands Hotel & Casino, Atlantic City, New Jersey, U.S.A., for the USBA Middleweight Championship. This was a Saturday afternoon bout telecast on the NBC program SportsWorld. Action was called at ringside by Marv Albert and Dr. Ferdie Pacheco. Later that evening, Clint "The Executioner" Jackson beat Robbie Sims (Marvin Hagler's younger brother) by split decision also in Atlantic City. However, the location for this fight was The Golden Nugget Hotel Casino. This fight was the main event of ESPN's Saturday Night at The Fights. Commentating at ringside for this telecast was Sal Marchiano and Al Bernstein. Your records have BOTH fights occuring at the Sands Casino & Hotel. As a side note, Frank Fletcher (along with Sugar Ray Leonard) was introduced in the ring before the Jackson-Sims fight by ring annoucer Ed Darien, who commented that Frank had won the USBA middleweight title earlier that afternoon. Ed Darien was the ring announcer for both fight cards. Clint Jackson came into the Sims bout as the #9 ranked middleweight by the WBC. Hope some of this information is useful. All the best.

Thanks for the info. I also moved the Howard Davis fight to the Nugget card. Do you happen to know which undercard fights belong there too?

I only recorded the main events to these 2 telecasts so I'm not certain of which undercard fights were on which card. If I get a chance I will check the details which I'm sure I have in my extensive Ring Magazine collection.
